Reviews of The Mad Monk by Quinlans
"A tasty fish restaurant but they went a bit too heavy on the garlic butter sauce. It was in both my dishes AND my husbands deep water prawn tagliatelle to the point it was swimming in it. Partially, this multo-butter fest occurred because they had run out of four starters including the smoked salmon which was a bit odd, so I had sizzling prawns followed by crab claws in the the same butter sauce. However, I still think it was a too heavy in the pasta. The other dishes around us looked great, the service was friendly and the atmosphere is charming so I give it 4 stars, they just need to be aware that using the same base sauce in the kitchen over several dishes, however good, was too much and may they need a lighter touch."
"we visited here 2months ago and their food was amazing! I just realized that I wasn't able to post a review after our dinner in their Cork city restaurant. I must say, quality is consistent. Quinlans' says that their ingredients are fresh especially the seafoods and we can attest to it. We had the freshest and most delicious oysters! Lovely staff, you can feel that they are proud with the food that they serve. Without a doubt this will be our go to restaurant in Killarney."
"When you start the evening with tasty crab claws swimming in butter, you know it's going to be a good night. And, when you spend time sopping up the sauce with every last morsel of bread available. The seabass with mussel risotto was delicious. The seabass was left unadorned and it let the fresh seafood be the star of the show. That meatiness balanced nicely with the creaminess of the risotto underneath. The hake fish and chips were very good, but my husband said as a personal preference he would probably choose cod (which was available) next time. Still a delightfully crunchy batter and solid french fries. Stephen was a great waiter. Friendly and attentive at the right times. Every one here is hustling and keeping on top of all the tables' needs."
"If you want seafood go here. Reasonably priced for the area and amazing seafood. We had one non-seafood lover who was able to find an alternative here and she liked her dish. The 3 of us who love seafood really loved it."
"The seafood was beyond our expectations! Everything was fresh. We started with the sizzling shrimp which was amazing, drenched our bread in the oil/butter sauce. The waitress told us they got baby squid that day and it was unreal so we ordered the calamari to start as well. The oysters were huge, delicious, and fresh. And we shared a lobster as well which was heavenly. Highly recommend. Cheers!"
