Reviews of Horndean Technology College
"Terribly poor school. Starts at the top and the Head is unimpressive, lacks innovation and biding her time to retirement. School is in desperate need of new management and an overhaul. So many examples of poor management at all levels. Some brilliant teachers, but tarnished by school as a whole."
"I've never seen a school seem to take pride in beating the joy out of students. None of the staff care about the students and are more worried about fiddling the numbers to make Ofsted Happy. They refused to speak to parents claiming they are busy. Would rather brush things under the carpet. This also seems to be the opinion of Alot of parents who would rather pull their children out for either Home schooling or applying for TPS in petersfield. Karma will soon catch up to the people in charge"
"Don’t listen to those ‘i recommend this school’ fake reviews. People who are saying that you should bring your children here are not only making an incredibly incendiary comment, but are turning a blind eye to what is happening right in front of them. This school is HORRIBLE; teachers are incompetent at handling bullying and they don’t care unless something becomes serious (which is still highly unlikely that they’d take action, or barely bring a student to justice). Students who are victims to bullying and racial abuse in particular have NOT been fought for. Not to mention the toxicity in this school reaches biblical levels; even Addison Rae’s tiktok comment section is quaking. No one - no student, no child, no person - should EVER have to feel so trapped and uncomfortable in a LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. Never in my life have I seen students, especially the poc, feel so uncomfortable and insecure about going to school . Why on earth should a student feel this way? School isn’t enjoyable for almost all of us, school culture is toxic enough as it is, but this school takes it to the next level. Education is part of life, but the mental and physical abuse that a student will go through IN THIS SCHOOL is NOT an excuse. So finally, dear HTC, please sort yourself out. Do better for the children, because NO ONE deserves to go through what students in this school have gone through. You need to do better. periyat."
"There should be an option to not even be able to put any stars. This school has brought many problems into my child life. From verbal abuse to physical. What started of as little insults turned to much of a bigger problem having written on his desk. “Go back to your country you.. (An insult used on LGBTQ+ Members). Schools are not suppose to be a battleground or a place that should be unsafe. It should be a getaway from home so you can meet with friends and enjoy education. I am very disappointed..."
"Went to this school, and left recently. Half of the teachers in the school were amazing and great, while others were awful. While I can't remember specific names, the Business department, the Computer Science department, the Maths department (for the most part), and the RS department were great. The science department wasn't the greatest, and the English department wasn't too great, either. I suffered constant bullying all throughout the school, and it was only when things got physical did they step in. For the most part, they completely ignored verbal and cyber bullying, and a large percentage of the verbal bullying you receive is from the teachers themselves under the guise of "banter" The school has great Ofsted scores because they threaten you with detentions or more severe punishments than you would normally get if you behaved badly in front of an Ofsted inspector. I didn't even know I could get assessed in order to receive a word processor or extra time in the exam, they never advertised it or talked about it. It wasn't until I went into sixth form that I was told that this was even possible. It's even something we'd brought up to teachers time and time again, but not one person told us it was something that even existed. This is all my opinion of the school, but I feel like most former or current students will agree with 1 or more of the points I have made here. Edit about 1 year later- I have now been assessed by a psychologist and found to have specific learning disabilities which have severely impacted my learning. How an assessment was never even bought up as an option for 5 years by any teacher at the school is completely baffling and raises a lot of questions about how well (or in this case- how badly) the school caters to disadvantaged students in that regard."
