"Gentle walk past fields of wheat to the summit and the Prop of Ythsie where panoramic views of sea and mountains can be enjoyed."
"Literally stumbled across this as it really isn't well signposted. Could see it in the distance coming from Loanhead of Daviot Stone Circle and wondered what it was! The inscription above the door reads "To George Hamilton Gordon, Fourth Earl of Aberdeen by his attached and grateful tennantry. He was born in Edinburgh on 28th January 1784 and died in London 14th December 1860". The car park is quite rough but roomy. Follow the farm track and signs to the structure. The stairs inside the tower are as you would expect to find in any castle-type building - narrow, steep and stone, so be careful! The view from the top is fantastic and worth the climb. You'll spend around 40 minutes walking to, up, enjoying the view, down again and back to your vehicle."
"Nice short walk, 15 mins uphill through the fields. You can climb the tower for a panoramic view. Parks is easy just nearby the health club. Path can be muddy."
"Good walk and stunning views. There is a good car park close by, about 250metres off the B999 and is easily seen on your left as you drive up the road. Car Park has quite a lot of pot holes, but ok if you take it carefully. The route is well maintained and easy to follow, it can get muddy / slippy underfoot as you walk amongst the trees, but with the right footwear it will be ok. Quite a steep climb as you come out of the trees, and walk through the fields, staying close to the stone wall. The prop is a Grade C listed building, dating back to mid 1800’s and is still in good repair. Worth taking time to walk to the top of the prop, but be careful as the steps can be slippy with water and bird droppings. The views from the top are amazing, remember and take your binoculars for best views."
"Very good walk up a wee hill, suitable for all kids and dogs alike. On foot only, not suitable for biles or wheelchairs. The Prop is impressive and bigger than you’d expect from the road. Climb up the spiral stairs inside the folles to reach the parapet, which offers excellent views of Tarves and surrounding country, 360 degrees. Enough space at the top for two or 3 adults at a time."
