Reviews of Duke of Cumberland
"Professional Review Unfortunately on this occasion it is going to be a 2 star review. This establishment has gone down hill. Hardly anything in stock on the menu no pigs in blankets and no chicken and limited drink available like no Prosecco etc and plus over an hour wait for a simple Burger and chips. Online the roast dinners come with stuffing etc but they don’t come with it and when asked they just said they had no stuffing in stock. The roast dinner is substandard. Watered down gravy chewy meat it’s just a shame. The burger was just a Pattie out of the freezer that was burnt and the chips came out cold. The children’s portions are tiny and came out cold. Worst review I’ve had to do to date what a shame. Unfortunately this establishment has lost its vibe since mark had it. In a positive light the manager dealt with the issues professionally and issued a refund. See attached photos"
"Really difficult to say anything positive about our experience here in Jan 2023. Poor service, really poor food and dirty cutlery. My advise would be to keep your money in your pocket and visit somewhere else if you're looking for a pub lunch. We'd taken a lovely walk alongside the Humber from Hessle and were really looking forward to a lovely pub lunch. Arrived just after 12 to be told there wasn't any meat pies. Was offered a vegetarian pie or a seasonal pie. I asked what was in the seasonal pie to be told ''chicken and stuffing I imagine''. It turned out the seasonal pie was chicken, carrot and parsnip when I asked them to confirm which sounded nice so I ordered one. Baby food inside a pastry case best describes it. Awful. Chips had been cooked many many times but the peas were OK. My partner said her sausage and mash was so tasteless she started to wonder if she'd caught Covid but she hadn't thankfully. Won't ever return."
"Had dinner at the Duke this evening. It was very busy but the food came in good time and was absolutely delicious. Lovely atmosphere. We came for the quiz too but missed it as the pub was so busy!"
"The food was terrible, went for a Sunday dinner and could not finish the meal. The beef, roast potatoes and veg were over cooked. My wife's chicken was also dry, and between five of us we were given two Yorkshire puddings to share. I didnt even take the beef to give to the dog, as he would most probably have choked on it. We did not bother ordering pudding's and bought a cheesecake from the co op next door. The only positive comment I can make, was the cask ales were very good and the lad who served me was polite."
