Reviews of National Karate Institute Scotland (NKI)
"Unsafe. Painful abdomen and back after technique practice because they won't use pads during punching and kicking when they are needed and force stretches. They try and do everything so fast you can't learn. If you care about your health, safety and learning there are other clubs in Aberdeen. Karate should be done with gloves all the time. It's been a few months and my back still hurts. The karate club only teaches you punching, blocking and kicking but to defend yourself you need to learn more. It is too traditional to teach the most effective self defence in all situations including grappling."
"Excellent club, my whole family participate and have done so for the last 7 years, rare to be able to train with a 9th Dan instructor outside of Japan. We have found that is great for our kids to improve confidence, fitness, behaviour and for self defence in the future."
"I have done karate for over 10 years and I have enjoyed it thoroughly. Sensei Watt is good at inspiring others and making you feel welcomed into the club. The people in the club are very welcoming too and will often help if you have a problem with some of the techniques or kata."
"I've been training for over 10 years here along with both of my children. The knowledge that Sensei has is amazing and after all this time he still surprises me with some new technique or way to improve existing techniques. I have been lucky enough to travel to many different countries with the club, for training, competition and as a referee. The club has a safe and fun environment that is great for all the family but also instills a sense of pride and discipline into the members. Karate offers great health benefits both physical and mental. The NKI has also given me a huge amount of great memories and enjoyment during my time. Long may this continue. Just as a highlight Sensei Ronnie, thanks to his dedication, knowledge of karate and his striving to act as an ambassador for Karate and Scotland around the world has been recognized by the Queen via being awarded an OBE, by Japan being awarded the Order of the Rising sun and numerous other countries have presented him with other awards."
"Brilliant club. Great for adults and children. I've been going with my kids for years. The instructor is a legend in the Karate world. Recognised by the Queen, the Japanese Government and Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeen University. 50 years training Karate. You can go just to train and improve yourself or you can become an international competitor if you have the desire to win medals. I would recommend the club to anyone who wants to train real Karate. It's the thinking persons club. You are very safe here. Any nutters will shown the door right away. We all have jobs to go to the next day. :-)"
