Reviews of Frensham Heights School
"The nursery at Frensham Heights has been absolutely excellent for our 3 year old. Fantastic teachers and amazing environment. She learnt a lot and was especially keen on the forest school and gardening club."
"Truly unique approach to learning and developing students to become well rounded people who look at the whole picture of a situation. Wonderful place to grow and learn, almost needs a special name, because no other school is like it."
"A Special school. Pupils are given a lot of independence, which is good because it teaches them how to stand on their own to feet, although sometimes the children can be disrespectful. Overall a nice, friendly school."
"I spent six wonderful years at this school and eventually graduated with a perfect score in my A-Levels, despite my poor performance when I arrived. The teaching staff was always willing to answer any extremely obscure questions, and the other students were all very friendly, albeit quite sheltered. It provided a great environment for learning. The administration was also willing to listen to any complaints. The school is also good at navigating the UK university admissions process, allowing me to gain a place on a very competitive course. I feel that the ISI report and the Good Schools Guide report are both very accurate in their positivity. I felt that the liberal attitude gave me space to make my own decisions without being pushed into a certain path."
"Frensham Heights has the potential to be great school, and from the prospectus you could easily be convinced that it is. However in reality the Junior school is neglected, its buildings are in need of repair and the teaching staff provide an experience that is adequate but not exceptional. The school very much sells itself on its liberal approach, however, this can be an excuse for just not bothering with some aspects of the education system. Nursery is Montessori, but there are many nurseries that provide a far greater experience, for less fees. There was little evidence of a true Montessori approach, rather more of a half hearted one. The infants classes provide what I would consider a sub par experience, and this is evident from the fact that school is having trouble filling its Reception and Year 1 classes. The forest classes are excellent, however many schools now offer this. Frensham has also chosen to increase its fees by between 1-3% each year, at a time when inflation is 0%. This can only be construed as greed, as there is very little evidence of investment to match this fee increase. The school very much focuses on the Arts, and this can often by at the expense of Science. A prime example of this is the new Arts and theater facility which dominates an enter wing of the school. Meanwhile science is relegated to a neglected Victorian building. The school may have once been outstanding, but there are now many schools in the area that provide a better experience, including state schools. Added to this is the fact that A-Level and GCSE results are far from stellar. In short the school needs to pull it socks up and increase its academic performance, or it will continue to suffer from dwindling student numbers."
