Reviews of Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences
"Fantastic lecture about black holes by Professor Bob Wald."
"This year (2022) the INI has invited way too many scientist (perhaps to compensate for the pandemic years?). As a result they are completely understaffed to deal with the situation. Here is a list of what went wrong: (1) At the time of the invitation they offered me accommodation, which was later withdrawn on short notice. I had to find a flat on my own and received £55 reimbursement per night, which is by no means enough to live in Cambridge. Colleagues told me that some of the flats offered by the institute are extremely noisy. (2) The participants in my research programme were expecting to have individual offices. Since the institute was fully booked, we were only allowed to use two conference rooms at a different place. Due to that some of us left earlier than planned. (3) The website is highly unorganised (every page starts with a scam warning) and contains wrong information (for instance some listed participants were not even in academia). (4) The email communication was inefficient (many useless "ACTION REQUIRED" emails). They forgot to ask the speakers for permission to broadcast their talks. Therefore, many talks were not available on live stream. (5) The sound and video quality of the video talks is mediocre. Some of the talks from a conference two months ago are still not available online. It seems they simply forgot to process the remaining videos. (6) After two months, I'm still waiting for the reimbursement of the per diem (£15 per day). Think twice before you go."
"As lovely and exciting as 20 years ago."
"I am very interested in Newton, s Theases"
"Modern building, but fitted out for mathematicians. Lots of stairs and levels, attractive alcove for discussions with math."
