"Nice way to watch world go by"
"Booterstown Nature Reserve lies right at the heart of Dublin Bay located in Booterstown, County Dublin, between the coastal railway line and the Rock Road. It is an area of salt marsh and muds, with brackish water. It includes the only salt marsh, and the only bird sanctuary, in south Dublin Bay. The marshland was once much larger, running from Merrion Strand down as far as Blackrock. During the 19th century, the building of the Dublin to Kingstown railway and other building works meant much of the marsh land was filled in. Now however, what remains is an incredibly important around 4 hectares of habitat for protected birds and plant life. Throughout the year a wide number of birds can be spotted including Moorhen, Teal, Mallard, Snipe, Oystercatcher, Lapwing, Kingfisher, Little Egrets and Brent Geese."
"Never underestimate what’s going on here, something different every time. Just glance through the hedges on the R118/ Merrion Road. Some days the Brent Geese, sometimes an egret, maybe just a duck or gull. This time a flock of godwits I think. So camera with long lens best."
"Not much to do but a sandwich and crisp location, can train spot the local train"
