Northampton General Hospital Accident and Emergency Department

"My boyfriend was told by 111 to go to a&e because of severe abdominal pain. I would say go to any other possible hospital. The wait times were appalling - in total we waited for 12 hours. There was one nurse running around doing everything in the waiting room we were in (her name was Lauren and she was lovely). The doctor who saw my boyfriend refused to listen to where his pain was and instead did the evaluation on the wrong part of his body. He ignored my boyfriend explaining the pain and where it was and told him to go home after he had sat in pain all night"

"Visited on Saturday with my mum who had had a fall, would give five star review as all staff really kind and helpful, especially the doctor who made my mum a cup of coffee and was very thorough and gentle with her, the lady by the door who helped me get her and her wheelchair into the car, also the paramedic who helped us when inevitably the loo was required, unfortunately the length of time it took to get seen means I can't. It's a shame that such long waits have become the norm, I think in total my mum was sat in a wheelchair for around 8 hours, could have been worse but still a long time for anyone especially an elderly lady."

"Daughter injured elbow at gymnastics, wanted it checked out. We were directed to the paediatric entrance where the receptionist booked us in. We waited about half an hour to have the initial assessment done, then we were directed to the injury unit. The doctor saw us and quickly booked us into x ray. After going to radiography we were directed to the x ray unit. Following the x ray we went back to the doctor, we were shown the x ray and the doctor went through it all with us. Honestly from start to finish the whole 'experience' was seamless. I'd like to thank everyone who saw to us today for their professionalism, kindness and good humour - everyone was incredibly helpful and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Northampton General Hospital to anyone who needs it."

"Shocked how I’ve been paying tax all my life and to have a service in a town I live in so appalling when I needed it the most. A woman name Joanna at the triage bit even shouted at my daughter for having an epileptic fit whilst waiting in the queue. When the nurse came to check out my daughter this woman had the audacity to say she’s fine, she’s not fitting and everything was normal. When my other daughter questioned her as to why she said that when clearly she’s had a attack from a falll which has fractured her sisters nose, and she has suffered with blackouts and fits from traumatic situations all her life , Joanna turns around and says she could not see anything and we can’t jump the queue.Joanna with her Eastern European accent then threatens to throw us out if we complain again. Joanna felt she needed to exercise her authority at the time when we were the most vulnerable!! It made me cry and think of people in countries where they experience lack of medical attention and have people like Joanna running their lives.. May god bless us all and save us from such situations that’s my prayer for anyone who experienced such an ordeal in their time of need."

"Given the strain the NHS is under I cannot fault the care. 7 hours to see a doctor but every staff member I saw was amazing, recognised the pain I was in and gave me pain relief for it. The doctors didn't blame my pre existing medical conditions on what I was experiencing which was unheard of for me normally. Thank you all at A&E for treating me so well."
