About National Trust - Lyveden
The National Trust Lyveden is a fascinating establishment and point of interest that serves as a premier tourist attraction in the United Kingdom. This stunning institution is located at Lyveden New Bield, Lyveden PE8 5AT, United Kingdom, and is a must-see destination for anyone interested in history, architecture, or nature.
Lyveden New Bield is a remarkable example of Elizabethan architecture and design, and there are few places in the world quite like it. Constructed by Sir Thomas Tresham in the late 16th century, it was intended as a lodge for hunting and entertaining guests. However, following Tresham's death, the building was never completed, and it stood abandoned for hundreds of years. Its ruinous state only adds to its charm and authenticity, inviting visitors to explore its rich history.
The National Trust has taken great care to preserve the site's stunning Elizabethan features, ensuring that visitors can marvel at the intricate plasterwork and rare architectural details which make the building so unique. The space is also home to a vast array of wildflowers and butterflies, making the Lyveden New Bield a premier destination for nature lovers and hikers alike.
In addition to the historical and natural attractions, the National Trust Lyveden also offers visitors a chance to engage with local communities by participating in a variety of events and activities. These include traditional folklore storytelling, arts and crafts workshops, and guided tours of the estate.
There is truly something for everyone at the National Trust Lyveden, from the history buff and architecture enthusiast to the nature lover and cultural explorer. No matter what your interests may be, this extraordinary institution is sure to leave an indelible impression upon your heart and mind. Reviews of National Trust - Lyveden
"Lovely place, good place to go a walk although it's not a long walk. There's only a path around the manner house after that it's mainly on grass! Seemed a good place for families too, visited in winter but I will be going back in summer to see the Labyrinth as it wasn't visible at this time of year. On one thing if your coming from Corby direction the road is sooo bumpy but that's not a reflection on Lyveden I would still go again but probably find a different route there."
"Visited here today with our toddler. It’s a little off the beaten track-3 miles of narrow and rather potholed road, but it’s well worth a visit. We were met by friendly staff and showed us a map of the area. There are plenty of clean toilets. We had a great walk with our toddler to the Lodge, spending time in The Spinney, building a shelter and then walking through the orchard. Our toddler enjoyed climbing the grass banks and walking along the moat, before we came to the Lodge. The Lodge is an interesting place to visit. We then headed back to the lovely cafe, where we enjoyed hot drinks and cake. Our toddler enjoyed an ice cream! The staff again were very friendly. We will definitely return in the summer. There were a lot of young families visiting today. A “plus” would be to have a play area for the little ones."
"Lyveden was well signposted although the roads were rather narrow and potholed! There is a good sized car park and the staff throughout the site were friendly and helpful. We used on of the maps offered to us and walked past the main building, through the orchards and to the ruined lodge. This is remarkably well preserved and interesting building, with religious symbols and symbolism throughout. There also graffiti from the seventeenth century to the present day, carved on to its stones. From this building we took the path to the earthworks and moat and enjoyed more views of the lodge before heading back to the main building. The main building is intact and houses a museum area as well as a reading room which was utterly serene and a lovely addition. In the museum are some aerial photos which allow you to get a proper idea of the layout of the lodge and gardens. There is also a lovely little cafe with a sheltered outdoor seating area."
"Visited here yesterday, after last visiting here quite a few years ago, much has changed since then. NT has acquired another building and turned it into a large cafe with a larger toilet block and there are several rooms with information in and a litre bookshop in the common room upstairs. There is a walk around the large orchard, moat, labyrinth and gardens with bridges and a spiral mound to climb, before you get to the lodge, which is a lovely setting itself. Although not the biggest place, you can easily spend a few hours here and if you take the audio tour you’ll understand a lot more about it too. Lots of little quirks and interesting things to find out about this place and much more to do than there used to be."
"Beautiful, calm and picturesque. Spent 3 hours walking around the grounds and house. Dog friendly. Coffee shop and clean toilet facilities. Take a picnic. There are acres of land to sit and admire the views. Will go back. Definitely. It was good to see a chilled water tap in the Caffè, so you can fill your drink bottles up for free. There were plenty of bowls of water for the dogs too. We'll done National Trust x"
