Reviews of The Holly Bush at Salt
"This place has potential.but is let down by substandard food and service. My starter was a prawn cocktail with watery tasteless prawns, some chopped celery and cucumber and a tiny drizzle of a seafood sauce that was woefully inadequate to save this starter from being flavourless just a poor effort. The main course went some way to redeeming the situation. Oven roast cod was served with a creamy leek sauce and mustard mash potato which generally worked well. What didn't help the overall experience was slow service despite not being busy including needing to ask for the bill twice etc which took an age to arrive for no apparent reason. I wanted to recommend a visit as the building has its charms and the place has potential but the overall quality just isn't there."
"First time to visit since the new owners had modernised it etc. I really enjoyed sitting in the garden before our meal . I wasn't wowed by the new decor and lay out. It hasn't retained enough of its olde worlde charm for me ! It seemed rather cramped especially when every table was full. It's just as popular which created a great atmosphere. We ordered at about 6 :45 and received our three main courses at 7:30. We were among the first tables so expected a quicker service . Was it really because the lamb dish took a lot longer than our fish? My main course was sea bass with mussels and little bit of tomato and courgette. It needed something else with it ..new potatoes or chips. So of course I ordered a side of chips which really bumped up the price of my meal to £19!! We didn't enjoy sitting in the snug as not only is it a bit small but when full it's very noisy! My friends enjoyed their meals : lamb kleftiko and battered fish and chips. On the whole it was a pleasant evening ,good service ,great bar man and well cooked food."
"Visited the Holly bush for my 42nd birthday . Recently refurbished and it was so different to the last time i visited . Lovely thatched roof , low ceilings with beams warped windows . The food was very nice , my mix grill was larger than I'd normally have and it defeated me . Only criticism I had was that the menu could have been better and it was not very vegetarian friendly"
"Love what the new owners have done with the place. Lovingly refurbished, inside and out, the thatched roof looks amazing. Very good value food, with a great menu. Friendly staff. Would well recommend it."
