"My mother was sent here as an 8 year old when it was a convalescence home for poorly children. She had severe asthma, and it was thought the sea air would help. She is now 76 and still going strong ❤️"
"Would avoid working here. The management expect staff to get beaten daily and say "its part of the job" ... not professional fighters it's not part of the job to be told "Sometimes you need to stand there and let a learner take their anger out on you" Secondly. Alot of the deputy managers or team leaders have no people skills or staff management skills and are bullies. Lastly you are told countless times that your family life, social life, home life etc are not priority. Work is. Only work here if you are desperate. The learners are the best part about the career, they genuinely appreciate your support and always smile."
"My son has just started his second year at St John’s. As a mum of profoundly Autistic young man. One of my biggest concerns is handing him over to people you don’t know. One of his challenges is communication. St John’s have been fantastic. All the staff at College and Residential took so much time and care In meeting not only my sons needs but they took us on as a family.. I drop and collect my son, I have had lots of opportunities to be an onlooker when learners are being themselves with no care for who may be watching. All of the staff without exception treat our children as the unique individuals they are. With the same care and attention that we would give as parents. My son has grown in confidence and this has enabled me to leave him with others knowing that he will be safe, we’ll looked after and will achieve to his full potential. St John’s are constantly in contact and keeping me informed and involved with all aspects of his learning. We are very lucky to have found St John’s Gill."
"The provision and space for our AUTISTIC INDIVUDUALS HERE HAS TO BE SEEN!!! If my son could attend and be resident here .. l'd be so happy for him.."
"Would not send my dissabled kid here if it was the only option on the planet. The staff drink tea and coffee all day and act like they are busy, the learners are left to thier own devices and are spoken to with disrespect. There is a a culture that alienates new members of staff and treats them poorly, there is a high turn over of staff, many hand in thier resignations or are let go. Staff are on their phones all day or doing crosswords, some have a huge chip on their shoulders and think they are remarkable at teaching yet they cannot imbed simply numercy and literacy in their tutor groups. The ofstead report is shocking and it will continue to decline. Any talk of positive change or implementing ideas you will be black balled and labled a trouble maker. Avoid like the plauge."
