"I paid £133 for the smallest room option for a booking in the middle of the week in off season (ie mid January). Check in process was a bit wobbly but overall fine. And while I don't mind cozy spaces, the shower space was very (and unnecessarily) tight. In addition, the plastic toys littered in the garden were in line with an overall sense of the property being somewhat poorly attended to. Not what I expected for the price, and for the 5 star rating. Inside, the decor of the main reception room and stairwell halls was that of odd contemporary framed pictures (akin to pictures of gum wrappers) with pots of plastic flowers / plants throughout. Again, not quite what I expected from the photos. To top it off, the breakfast room was too chilly for comfort. I understand the political and economic needs to turn temps down, but refusing to the allow breakfast to be had in the room to compensate for this was disappointing, not that the menu offerings of typical breakfast fairs (mushrooms on an english muffin being the most innovative) were overly appealing. (I dined out elsewhere). In short, this was a much over-priced stay; this coming from a reviewer who knows the BTN and Hove hotel market well, as I've been staying in various hotels weekly during a many months long renovation process of my local home. To my fellow travellers: better values for price are available elsewhere throughout this beloved city of mine. I do agree with prior reviews, though, that the location is fantastic, and the insides of the rooms are tastefully decorated."
"Perfect location for an overnight stay. Helpful staff, lovely room and en suite. The breakfast menu was good and food served was great and good choice on buffet breakfast table. Room decorated for Christmas very cheery and comfortable."
"Not the cheapest but certainly a cute hotel, in an old Victorian school building. We had afternoon tea here and it was most enjoyable. Great gluten free options too. Lovely staff and service. One tip: do away with plastic plants and replace them with real ones."
"We stayed in room 3 with the four poster bed a few weeks ago, in a room slightly larger than our bungalow, not only was the room large but the bathroom was huge. The breakfast was super and the service staff were very professional. Well worth a visit if you have a spare couple of bob."
"The Claremont is a beautiful b&b located in central Hove. Many restaurants and bars are close by and only a few minutes walk to the beach. Carolina had sent me clear instructions on how to check in out of hours. The room was tastefully decorated. The sweets in the jar were a lovely touch. The breakfast is fantastic and well-executed. The toast was only offered with the full English, although it seems you can ask for whatever you would like. I also liked that they had freshly ground salt and pepper on each table, and the tables were laid out according to your room number. I would have preferred music to radio, but just a preference. The hotel was spotless! 5 stars for cleaning! Small reasons for not giving a five rating; 1. Breakfast juices, fruit etc., were not always laid out and often no milk had I wanted cereal. I didn't realise fruit was an option until my third or fourth day, as that was the first time it was all set out. 2. I loved the paintings for sale throughout the hotel. However, I didn't feel it appropriate to have them in the guest rooms. Overall a lovely stay with helpful staff, and I will being staying there again when I go back with my husband."
