Reviews of The Flying Dog Café
"This could be such a nice cafe given the location in IMMA but instead it’s a dark looking space with mediocre offerings:bland soup, soda bread that turns out not to be fresh but frozen, presented as toasted but doughy in the centre. It all has the feel of a canteen with a chaotic layout (e.g no trays at the start of the queue but placed near the tills) and horrendous signage —how did MMA ever decide, “yes, let’s go with the company with the sausage dog as it’s logo”?! Visitors and especially tourists to the museum deserve better."
"It looks like this place is doomed, or maybe the cafe owners just can't get it right. The cafe has changed, but service is still terrible. We visited on the day of the Eco festival, with a child who has nuts allergies. We checked beforehand that there wete some suitable options for him. We queued 30 minutes, there were about 10 people in front of us. At the till, I ordered a ham and cheese panini, which was on the menu, but was informed that there was only vegan food that day on account of the festival. It would have been so easy to put a sign on the door, but nope. Unfortunately, vegan food contains nuts, seeds and coconut about 90% of the time so not suitable for our child. I ordered a cappuccino for myself, plant milks only available but that's OK, I drink oat milk. The coffee was revolting, tasting like lemon juice mixed with oat milk. I discarded it"
"We had an absolutely lovely afternoon tea experience. We didn't even know there was a Cafe in the area (we just wanted to walk the Kilmainham Royal Hospital grounds) but I'm so glad we happened upon it. The manager fit us in for tea even though they usually require booking a day in advance which was so nice. The tea, sandwiches, and pastries were abundant and delicious and the room where they serve tea is adorable."
"Had lunch there recently and was very disappointed Service was poor and I had to go and ask for my meal despite being assured it would be delivered. When it did arrive it was lukewarm and the portion was meagre. A small side salad came without dressing and none was offered Pricey too. We left hungry Not good enough least of all for a national museum"
"Decent coffee. Nice Homemade cakes. I have found the service a bit hit and miss over the years but staff were friendly and helpful in my recent visit"
