"Went twice as it is a lovely tea house with a good selection. The place is pretty and you can be inside working or people watch at the front. The music gives a warm atmosphere and takes you back in time a little bringing more warmth as you feel the stress of the day go with a cup of tea. The food felt fresh and was worth the pennies. The service went down as some were attentive and detailed and some missed the detail parts so table service but missed a few things required and even the bill you went up for."
"Table service was fine, but the afternoon tea was poor. Low quality sandwiches and the cakes and various flavour macarons didn’t taste like anything other than sugar; no flavour, just very sweet, like eating plain sugar. Very disappointing, as they looked good… Scones were the best part, but still not great. I wouldn’t go back for afternoon tea..."
"Booked for late lunch, the Castle Meadow entrance looked like the whole place was closed, no lights on and no signs on the door. Went in and sign near stairs said open downstairs! Went down and it was freezing! No heating of any kind on. Appreciate that its full glass fronted onto London Street, but still absolutely freezing. Took 15 minutes to have drinks order taken and then food ordered. Was lucky the traditional breakfast still being served, arrived and looked delicious, but ate it quickly as it was getting cold. Husband had sausage baguette and chips. With a large filter coffee and a pot of tea, whole lot came to £25.45, thankfully had a voucher for £20. Service could have been better, waitresses looked like Mrs Overall!! Uniform didn’t fit so looked just wrong, they all looked like they would rather be somewhere else. Shame because it could have been a better experience with heating, softer lighting and better service ☹️"
"A friendly smile from any member of staff would have been welcome. We both had the special afternoon tea. You are allowed to have two refills for filtered coffee and the same for the selection of teas, in my opinion that's not enough for the filtered coffee as they are small cups. As for the afternoon tea, we were a bit disappointed, selection of finger sandwiches plus the small cakes were lovely, the disappointed was, we both had two large plain boring looking scones that looked like bread rolls, ideally they could have been much smaller with one plain and one fruit scone, service could have been more friendly with that all important smile."
"Relaxing atmosphere lovely decor. Loved the waiting staff dress code. Felt like I'd stepped back in time to a beautiful victorian tea room. The prices are very reasonable . The tea for 2 came with a teapot of real tea, a pot of hot water to refill with choice of lemon or milk. Sugar lumps and a little tea strainer! The tea tasted delicious. We had Egg Benedict with a choice of mushrooms or bacon. The sauce was delicious and buttery. Cannot fault the service atmosphere or food."
