Reviews of The Gatehouse
"Visited at 2.15pm, ordered a cheese and onion toastie, side of chips and advocado and poached eggs on toast for my daughter, plus two coffees. The coffees arrived after 10 minutes, one was hot , the other luke warm. When the actual food arrived after 30 minutes, although I recognised the toastie, I had no idea what else was on the plate - seems these were the side of fries….burnt, and tasting of burnt oil. Absolutely disgusting. When I went to pay the bill I told her i would not be paying for the fries, she wanted to know why?.! I pointed out they were burnt and was told that’s how the oil cooks them, and had i tasted them? I confirmed i had in fact tasted them, and they were absolutely disgusting…she didn’t seem overly fussed, and a cursory apology was given. It appeared from her attitude, that this is normal for them and they usually serve their fries like this. The toastie tasted ok, no complaints about that. My daughter’s meal didn’t fare any better, unfortunately. The ‘poached’ eggs were solid and more like hard boiled eggs. All in all, a very disappointing experience. The staff were slow to serve, even though there were only two other customers in at the time we were there. They had ordered just before us and were served and finished their meal before ours arrived. Even though we’re relatively local, we will not be returning, which is shame as it’s a nice location and could be a little gold mine with the right staff."
"Great conversion into a very besğoke coffee house and eatery. Has quality and a range of good options for meals. Service is prompt and helpful, and the set out and ambiance is great. Location just by old gatehouse into Kidwelly old town is perfect. Ample parking opposite and price is reasonable. Nothing not to enjoy."
"Lovely coffee house, friendly welcoming service, great opening hours, lovely atmosphere, nice food, reasonably priced."
"We were so surprised walking in, it's not how I expected it to look! It's been beautifully decorated. Everything on the menu sounds amazing, I chose the halloumi baguette with avocado and chilli jam. Reasonably priced too, huge drinks selection from coffees, soft drinks and wine and beer etc. The staff were all lovely and the whole place had a nice warm feel to it. Cannot wait to go back and try more things off the menu!"
"Stopped here as had an hour for lunch break. Myself and my wife liked the setting and may have been better for a coffee and cake stop. We waited around 30-35 minutes for food. First of which was my wife's 'mac and cheese' loaded fries - which looked and tasted like 'pasta n sauce' and fries. My meal was 5 minutes later which was nice a chicken burger with pulled pork loaded fries. We would call & again and will try a breakfast in future. Staff were friendly and apologetic for the wait. Also think we managed to listen to the majority of Queens Greatest Hits and as Freddie would say - Because I'm easy come, easy go,. We will return"
