Reviews of Toby Carvery Endon
"We were greeted nicely on arrival, but that was the last of the decent service. The staff member serving the meat was abrupt and mono-syllabic, and while we were being served, he received a telling off by a senior member of staff for shutting down too soon. Maybe that was well-earned but it would have been better behind closed doors rather than in front of customers. It's not good to see staff arguing and calling across the restaurant to each other either. It felt like staff were in too much of a rush to get us out of the door (we certainly hadn't been rude or done anything to deserve this). The young waitress at least asked us about our experience which we did politely and she took it with good grace. The carvery meat was okay but the vegetable selection was tired and limited (just a few peas was the sum total of the green veg on offer). Whilst it was in the last hour of service, the price is still the same and we are entitled to expect better when spending our hard earned money. The service was in sharp contrast to the warm welcome that we received at another carvery near Mansfield just 3 days prior (even closer to closing time) where there was a wider variety of food. For the record I have eaten periodically at The Plough since the 1980s when the welcome was warmer and the food better."
"Myself & my family had a lovely visit recently. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in, the staff are all really friendly & polite. Our drinks order was taken straight away & they were delivered to the table shortly after. We then went to the carvery where the food was fresh, hot & delicious. Our waitress checked on us just enough & convinced us to order puddings which were also delightful. I would definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant & we will be sure to visit again very soon."
"Reasonable food. Not great but not bad. Waiting staff do a good job and the chefs also. However what has knocked the score down is the woeful state of the building. Inside and out it looks and is dilapidated. Needs some serious money spent on the place. In summary average at best."
