SHAANXI 一面如旧

"Much to my surprise, I found an extremely unfavourable review in other pages of this little gem of a place near Brighton railway station. That was a review of the takeaway service, and we have never done other than eat in, so perhaps the other reviewer had a one-off unfortunate experience. Many of the customers of this place are Chinese - and that is always a good sign when deciding whether to give an oriental cuisine restaurant a try: they really KNOW the good ones from the bad! Judging by the amount of takeaway trade the restaurant does whilst we are inside, it also has many satisfied customers for that side of the business. The menu covers all the usual Chinese fare, but many other interesting dishes not generally found in most restaurants of this type. The food is piping-hot and service is friendly and efficient. There are only four or five sit-in tables - as stated above, it is a modest establishment. House wine is excellent. We always enjoy our food here - we go regularly - and we have not been disappointed yet. Our meal, for two, the other day with several dishes and wine came to £42.00, which we thought very good value for what we had. Unfortunately, they do not do the big, chunky spring rolls, but there are many other tempting starters on offer. Do give it a try!"

"Definitely the best noodle place in the town. Super authentic Xi’anese cuisine with cozy environment. Love it you can see the chefs pulling noddles in the open kitchen, just like the way how we make it in Xi’an. The staff are also super friendly. I always come here with colleagues after work."

"I got a takeaway from here. I ordered the dumplings in hot and sour soup. They had only meat dumpling options on the menu but they had no problem to give me vegetarian ones. The dish was delicious! The dumplings were filled well and melted in my mouth. The soup was both perfectly hot and sour. I ate every last drop. I will definitely return and with friends so we can try all the dishes!! It wasn’t the cheapest but is worth it."
