Reviews of St Luke's Tavistock
"Acts like an antique, sells clothes at extortionate prices Edit: Don't try and guilt trip with replies, other charity shops charged reasonable prices compared to this one, it's about charity not profit."
"I have used this shop for many years to buy and to contribute. It was always dog friendly. I went in today with some contributions, original oil paintings and some good books, but as soon as I stepped over the threshold they told me I could not come in because of my small, clean, well-behaved recently groomed dog on his lead ! So they have lost a few hundred pounds, and, as I never go into Tavistock without my dog, I can never buy from them again. Why? They don't even sell food. !"
"Don’t go to this shop; buy it new it may be cheaper in the long run? I am a single mother with 4 children and find it very difficult making ends meet. I try my best by working self employed and claiming low income support rather than just sit on the dole. Unfortunately I have had the displeasure of visiting St Luke’s Hospice charity shop in Tavistock and found a jumper for my 8 year old. I only had enough money to last the week around £20 and the tag said it was £4 (which new would have been around £6.99) however the jumper was worn but would last him the winter. I asked if it was possible to buy the jumper for £3 and the lady was very belittling purposely in front of the other customers and said “I think it’s worth it, no I won’t”. What made it worse is the tag said it was gift aided and therefore cost nothing and the greedy St Luke’s Hospice charity shop wanted to keep the 400% for themselves. According to St Luke’s Hospice web page, we the supporters are critical. If we do not buy from the St Luke’s Hospice charity shop it will have to close, is it not better to sell a jumper for £3 and make 300% profit and be caring of young single mother who can’t afford to spend a lot to keep their children warm. I understand that St Luke’s Hospice charity shop has overheads but so do the other charity shops and they seem to think charity is for everyone and are not greedy. Sell more slightly cheaper and earn more and lets be charitable to everyone not just St Luke’s Hospice. I understand the good work that St Luke’s Hospice do, so just give them a donation, but I urge all customers not to use the St Luke’s Hospice charity shop in Tavistock until they reduce their greedy prices to a competitive price. Also the other charity shops in Tavistock are far more reasonably priced and the staff are not condescending. See the quote below from St Luke’s Hospice website let’s hope they don’t out price themselves and lose your trust as they have done with me. “At St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth, our supporters are critical to our success. We have only been able to deliver exceptional end of life care over the past 35 years because of the generosity of our supporters. This much needed support has been invaluable over the years, without this support we would not have been able to carry out our life changing work ensuring that our patients live happy and pain free and stay with their loved ones as long as time allows and then ultimately facing death not alone and with dignity. That is why your trust is vital to us and why we are committed to being fully transparent and accountable to you, as without you St Luke’s Hospice Plymouth would not exist.” Please also see the other comments about St Luke’s Hospice charity shop and make your own conclusions."
"Charity shops used to be for those on a lower budget. I'm a afraid that £6 is the average price here just for a ladies top or tee shirt regardless of condition and they add another tenner if they feel it's a premium label (which is always a matter of opinion). They seem to be attracting a different clientele here (as are Oxfam). They would make more money and would be fairer if they lowered the prices in line with other 2 charity shops, Sue Ryder and the children's hospice as I always buy something from these 2 instead."
"Like this shop it's spacious And smells nice and clean lovely clothes and nice helpful staff"
