"A beautiful, clean, quiet and well equipped chalet. with a decent sized double bedroom and a small single alongside, both at the rear. The double bed was comfortable (I did not try the single). The chalet faces west across the bay, with tremendous views, good for sitting on the patio in the afternoon and evening. I stayed a week last autumn and found it very peaceful. There is a very small shop and daytime cafe a little walk along the main path, or very nice walks a little further afield, to the village of Down Thomas or along the coast. In high season there is a bus to Plymouth centre from the nearby fort car park, otherwise you need a car but can go into Plymouth via the Mountbatten ferry, where there is free parking. One highlight was a badger who comes along looking for food each evening round about dusk. Neighbours told me that at times they have had as many as 5 badgers walking along in front of their chalets and squabbling over food. You can go down steps to the beach, but there is not a lot for children beyond the toddler stage to do. There is a lot of sea traffic to watch, including frequent Royal Navy ships - there are binoculars in the chalet. We were treated to an evening's entertainment of a naval training exercise in the bay, including an Indian navy ship, and featuring helicopters landing on the decks of pitching ships and taking off again, and men overboard being rescued. At night the bay is alive with flashing lights indicating mysterious shipping hazards, and the Eddystone lighthouse can be seen in all but the worst weather."
