Reviews of The Salty Dog Hotel & Bistro
"We took the day off and went here for a birthday lunch. We firstly ordered a large glass of wine and a diet coke... the table we were sat at was dirty and had food all over it, the waitress left the drinks over and didn't clean table. Our food order was then taken.. We ordered fish & chips and the burger.. the waitress left our cutlery over and set them down on the dirty table, (wish I had taken a pic). After a while the phone rang beside our table and we overheard the woman on reception having an overly loud inappropriate conversation with the head chef on the phone, trying to calm her down, the receptionist was literally telling her to breath and take deep breaths etc beside us then saying " I know you've brought it up before time and time again but that kitchen is disgusting" and how they need outsiders to come in to do a deep clean in the kitchen. Then when the phone call ended we overheard the receptionist telling another member of staff that the chef standing in had sent the head chef a photo of the burgers in the kitchen and that the head chef had told him they were off and needed to be thrown out but he was going ahead and cooking them (for our order). We spoke to the woman on reception and told her to cancel our food order as we had overheard the phone conversation, she said she didn't blame us as the kitchen was stinking. We went to the bar to pay for.our drinks and it came to £16.50. When we question how it was so much for a coke and 1 glass of wine we were told the wine was a double as we had asked for a large glass. Customers should be made aware of this when ordering as it is usually standard in a bar to have a small and large glass on offer, and at no point were we offered a drinks menu or wine list. Don't visit unless you want food poisoning, poor service and over priced drinks."
"Dog friendly and they are actually happy to see your dog, they even have a supply of dog blankets in the porch for dogs to lie on beside your table. The staff are very friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is also very good and reasonably priced. Plenty of free car parking around the hotel."
"Usually go here for drinks but also been for several dinners and have to say. The menu always has something for everyone and the food is quality and tasty. I also find it quite endearing that I can bring my dog in and sit them beside while I have a drink. This inclusion is very much appreciated and I just wish more places did this. If you happen to be a Bangor local or stopping by in your travels, do stop in and check out this lovely spot."
"Stayed 3 nights there in October. Will definitely return for another visit. Easy free Parking. Nice large room with a really bright, spacious, bathroom and a view over the harbour and seafront. Just a couple of minor niggles about poor lighting and TV service in parts of the room, despite the large bay window. Great location, with easy access to Belfast (30 minutes away). Superb Restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Very friendly and accommodating staff."
"We had dinner here - dog and child friendly which was great. Good service and nice food too. Menu needs allergen/gluten free options marking up and more alternative options available. We really enjoyed our meal though."
