Reviews
"I have used services of Thandi Nicholls on a couple of occasions and I am very confident to refer Thandi Nicholls to anyone who is looking for accountant services. Thandi Nicholls are very professional in their transactions and their fee is also not very high. They are committed to delivery and customer satisfaction and ensure to provide timely updates on the status for the professional services one has engaged them. My case was slightly unusual, however, Pippa Hewitt stayed on the case from beginning till end, escalated the case internally as needed and ensured a positive outcome and delivery. Thanks to Pippa and Thandi Nicholls. I will be happy to engage your professional services again in case a need arises. Thank you."
"My experience was quite difficult and expensive - I was initially quoted £330 and in the end, was charged £2870 including VAT. I acknowledge that I may have been an anomaly and outside their area of expertise, as their reviews are generally positive. To provide context, I am a US citizen living in the UK with PAYE UK income and capital gains/dividends from several US brokerage accounts, with about 5-600 transactions per year. Initially, I hired them for my 2020-21 return because they advertised "Fixed Fee Tax Return." I was quoted £330, which was the reason I sought their help. I provided all of the information that I had upfront, including US 1099 forms and my UK P60. However, after quoting a fixed fee and beginning the work on that basis, they informed me that due to the number of transactions involved, they needed to charge £80 + VAT per hour to prepare the capital gains calculation. Despite them not expressing this before, I continued working with them and paid an additional £764 including VAT. As the deadline to file approached, they advised me on the afternoon of the 2020-21 HMRC deadline that they would file the return with a provisional CGT calculation to be corrected later. After filing this, there was quite a bit of back and forth over the following months which included 60+ emails and significant effort on my part. In August 2022, I received an unexpected invoice for £1776 including VAT, which I was told was due to transcription errors on my part (I had to transcribe all PDF statements to Excel), and mismatches of share purchase / sales from the statements which I then corrected. Apparently this triggered a requirement for a second review of the entire return, of which I was never told. It left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, essentially being told that it was my own fault that I was being billed for more cost with no prior warning. The matching of the purchases and sales is also something that I would expect them to do, but I put in the effort myself to keep costs down and get the return completed. This brought the total cost to £2870 including VAT. In January 2023, they sent me the final return. However, there were several errors that concerned me. Accounts for which I provided US 1099 forms over a year ago were missing, no dividends were included although I had provided them earlier, multiple securities were missing from the final CGT calculation, and the statement "Capital gains tax may need amending" was still present. Although these items also weren't addressed in the provisional filing in February 2022 that I agreed to, I expected that these errors and omissions would be corrected in the final return. As a client, I expected everything to be triple-checked before being sent to me. Instead, I felt that I was double-checking the work and pointing out errors myself in a last-minute rush to meet the HMRC deadline. I was surprised that as the client, I was spotting omissions, and that this wasn't caught by an internal review. It was especially concerning that the unexpected £1,776 invoice was in part to cover an internal review. Fortunately, the concerns were addressed, and the return was corrected. I received confirmation that the return was correct and HMRC sent receipt at 00:32 on 1st February 2023. Fortunately, as agreed, I was not billed any further cost beyond August 2022. For my 2021-22 return, I have engaged with a new accountant who specializes in joint US/UK tax matters, and it has been a night and day experience. I simply provided the statements and 1099s in Excel format. The next communication that I had was a copy of a completed return, and everything was filed within 1 month...at a fixed cost of £1385 including VAT. This is the customer experience that I was expecting from the outset. Overall, my experience with Thandi Nicholls was frustrating and expensive. While I understand that my situation may have been unique and out of their area of expertise, I was disappointed by the unexpected fees and the errors in the final return."
"The whole team at Thandi Nicholls provided a friendly and highly efficient service at a very competitive cost. Harry was my accountant who worked tenaciously on the tax returns for my wife and I and communicated with us throughout the process which is always reassuring. On completion, receiving a cheque from HMRC was a totally unexpected bonus. From this experience I know we will be using Thandi Nicholls next year."
"From start to finish the service offered has been first class. I was initially looking for help and advice together with a prompt and responsive service. Thandi Nicholls delivered on every aspect at transparent and fair pricing. I will have no hesitation using again in future and highly recommend others to get in touch."
"Our experience of working with the accountants at Thandi Nicholls has always been excellent. They helped with our self assessments for 4 years in a row. Their experts make it so easy and give sound advice when you don’t really know where to begin! They always took the time above and beyond to explain things to us, and were always quick to respond to any queries we had. If we need accountancy work again in the future, we would work with them again without question."
