The Bread and Roses Free House
About the Business
Welcome to The Bread and Roses Free House, a historic bar and establishment located in the heart of Plymouth, United Kingdom. At our location on 62 Ebrington St, we serve up a unique experience that combines traditional pub values with a commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for all.
Established in 1981, our Free House has become a beloved institution in Plymouth thanks to our cozy atmosphere, delicious food and drink, and commitment to social justice principles. As a co-operative, community-owned business, we understand the importance of working together to achieve common goals, which is why our bar is open to all.
Our establishment features a rotating selection of local craft beers, ciders, wines, and spirits, perfect for enjoying with friends or meeting new people. Our bartenders are experts in the art of mixology, and they are happy to create custom cocktails based on your preferences or recommend a new favourite.
But we're more than just a bar. Our space serves as a point of interest for people looking to engage with issues related to social justice, human rights, and community-building. We frequently host events, talks, and workshops led by experts and activists on topics such as climate change, food justice, and intersectional feminism. We’re a hub for progressive ideas and a safe, inclusive space for all to come together and share their thoughts and experiences.
Our establishment is wheelchair accessible, we have a gender-neutral bathroom, and we’re proud to have received awards for our commitment to environmental sustainability. Whether you're a local or a visitor to Plymouth, we invite you to stop by and see what makes The Bread and Roses Free House such a special place.

Reviews
"Really nice chilled pub with good quality drinks, we picked a quiet night but it can be very busy over the weekend."
"My favourite pub in Plymouth! The vibe is great, good live music events and the outdoor area is awesome!"
"Interesting bar that has a unique antique vibe, gentle volume of house beats play in the background but not loud enough to hear anyone’s conversation. People sit at the bar and chat to the barman, they are definitely regulars. I didn’t receive a welcome and paid £4.50 for a pint of freedom. Guest kegs are regular and seating is fairly limited but not in demand on a Sunday night. I’d visit again"
"Excellent Welcome, Staff were polite, friendly and knew their products, Lovely Decor, Warm Welcome & Relaxing atmosphere. Art on Walls and Historic Items dotted around, Covid Guidance in place & comfortable seating areas. Good range of products on sale and fair prices. Made my visit a good one & I fully intend on returning and if I see Staff when they visit Wales I'll pay for their first drink"
