Reviews of Kingfisher Hotel
"WOW, if your looking for cheap accommodation you'd be better off using a tent in the street. Whilst all the staff are very friendly, there is nothing else worth the £22/night fee. Room - Very grubby and worn out, it was like all the furniture came from the a recycling centre. Carpets were damp and grubby (nothing that a cleaner couldn't sort with a carpet cleaner). The kettle in my room had an electrical fault which led to it sounding like a short circuit, the guy came and his fix was to "place a sachet of sugar under one end to make a better connection". The bed base had HUGE rips in the fabric, like almost the entire width of the footsboard and along one side; there was no quilt (granted it's hot) but instead i was presented with an Afghan wool blanket crudely sandwiched between 2 cotton sheets to mask it.... I also made the mistake of taking a pillow out of the pillow case (because there were 2 in one case) and then thought it'd be better to be uncomfortable than to actually take the pillow out. Bathroom - Apart from the mirror and the toilet seat I'm not sure what else gets cleaned because the sink didn't empty in less than 2 minutes so it left all the scummy waste products smeared over it. The shower is probably not to current electrical safety standards due to its age (which is obvious as the plastic is starting to crack and discolour) Corridors - Smoke scented throughout, seriously you wouldn't think there was a public smoking ban. Parking - Don't even think about parking anywhere that isn't in the first 6 spaces outside the hotel because the Kingfisher Complex manager leaves a very bad English snot 'o' gramme on your car (or simply shouts at you for parking there). All things considered, it's cheap, but you really get less than you pay for (except you may get a nice illness from there)."
"Site said that the rooms had double or twin beds. Patio. Bath & shower. This is wrong. Not all rooms have a patio. Bath or double bed. As booked a double room with bath and patio, was told 5 days before arriving that the room was a twin, and if I wanted a double bed I would have to lose the bath and patio... The advert is just to make you book as you can't cancel after... room is also very basic and does not have all items/utilitys as stated. Room was not clean and floor stained. Lack of space in bathroom. Very all fashions and run down. Needs modernizing and a good make over.."
"Was sent to this hotel after one of the partner hotels screwed up our booking. Struggled to find the entrance as the site is a building site at present, when we got in it is a very simple hotel which is ok assuming you aren't worried about security. We had lovely patio doors in our room that were unlocked!! Also no curtains. But on the positive, the beds were very comfortable"
"Although the Smokehouse has burned to the ground the hotel and gym are still open. The hotel is now under new management and although I haven't stayed here it certainly can't be as bad as the rat infested drug hole that it had become under previous management so may be worth a visit."
"SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. IT'S FILTHY. Where do I start! ITS FILTHY AND UNSAFE TO STAY IN. If we hadn't arrived so late would of gone somewhere else. When we arrived, about 8pm, we were given a room with a kingsize bed in it for 4 of us to sleep in. So my husband asked for another room. Were given two other rooms, one double and one twin. They were both filthy. The bathrooms were disgusting. The carpets all stained. Beds were awful as headboards were stained and you could feel the springs in the mattress. And a big fire hazard as the doors wouldn't lock or unlock properly. It took my husband and son 30 minutes to unlock there door."
