Reviews
"I'll be honest - this is a backdated review as updating my google profile. We used to love going here, it felt a bit better quality food than other average places and actually introduced me to a few new dishes. My group of friends came here for around 3 Christmases in a row. However, me and my partner had a couple of bad experiences in a row. one regular saturday night and then the valentines special lunch a couple years ago. the service was so slow and poor and really ruined the experience. now only that the food was really. bad. both overcooked and as if it had been left to dry out on the side for a while. it was nearly an hour between starter and main so could easily have been forgotten. we would love to go back and see if we can up our review again but with so many other great places or new places we want to try then we haven't had enough reason to go."
"Fantastic value for an overnight stay. The rooms are a little dated but clean and comfy. The breakfast is absolutely lovely and we would not hesitate in staying here again."
"The standard if hygiene in the toilet was very poor. The shower hose worked but was broken, the extractor fan did not work, the toilet bowl was brown and not properly cleaned. The plug for the sink was thick underneath with built up dirt. The sink pipes were filthy. The windows were filthy. The TV remote control stopped working, needed batteries. Carpet was not very clean. Check in was 2 p.m we arrived at 1.42 p.m told we couldn't get into room until check in time, we were offered to sit in the bar until then. We declined and said no we were exhausted as we had been travelling since the day before, we were then told ok someone will check you in, right on 2.pm. The complimentary tea/coffee were good standard, the bed was very comfortable, staff polite, overall a big disappointment that there was no flexibility on check in , for the sake of 18 minutes. For that reason we decided not to eat there. Greene King are a big company, management could have been more accommodating for checking in if they wanted."
"Turned up on the Friday to an old looking building, didn't mind this too much. Went in to check in, there was a strong smell of what I thought was urine, turns out it was a vase of lilies. Looked lovely, but not what you want to smell when you walk in. We went up some rickety stairs that felt wonky and into our room, mostly clean and spacious but body hairs had been left in the bath tub, not just one or two, but many. Reported this to reception and this was dealt with straight away. Staff were friendly, professional, and always very helpful. We went downstairs to eat, food was okay, no immediate complaints. But then our 1 year old started with sudden onset vomiting, maybe an hour later. This continued throughout Saturday, Sunday and today(the Monday). Turns out he has food poisoning. Likely from the fish pie. The toilet was slanted and when you sat down you felt like you might fall off, the bathroom door didn't lock and the floorboards and uneven and wobbly. So walking across the room was uncomfortable. And it's on a busy main road, so okay if you take ear plugs, but otherwise the traffic never stops."
