"Excellent coffee, one of the best eggs Benedict around. Plenty of character. Service with a smile."

"Cosy with great food!"
"What was supposed to be a leisurely lunch with my three year old daughter turned into nightmarish hostile situation; we were ripped off and then held against our will in the café by unstable and extremely rude owner. We were waited by a boy who appeared to be no older than 13. I feel very positively about giving young people a chance to gain experience and I did not mind the fact that the young man did not know the menu or even how to serve bread and butter. An older colleague was trying to help him with a ‘difficult’ tea order (loose leaf tea which was nicely displayed in massive jars in the cafe suggesting it is house’s specialty but turn out to be an ‘adventurous’ option you should never dare to order). The lady appeared to be more confused about what was on the menu than the young lad. She did not know the tea selection and she also did not know what the house’s ‘special’ tea and cake deal includes. After intense negotiation the food and drinks finally arrived at the table minus the choice of ice cream/custard that was supposedly part of the ‘special’ tea deal. We had some of our lunch when my daughter wanted to go to the loo. When we came back from the toilet the table was cleared; about a third of my salad, most of my child’s cake and the ‘special’ tea I hardly had touched, all gone. I complained and the child waiter brought the plates back with the food still in them but also with all the rubbish from the table on top of it. I know it is an innocent mistake by an unexperienced but otherwise very polite young person; however I was slightly taken aback by the fact that we were not offered any concession for loosing half of our lunch. When paying the bill I asked for a discount due to the missing ice cream (my daughter really looked forward to it) and the countless mistakes. Without even trying to talk the situation through the owner came charging at me shouting that ‘they will not be taken advantage of…’ and accusing me of making things up not to pay my bill. I was not happy with my experience at all but I still paid the amount minus £2. My aim was not to go out without paying (looking back this is what I should have done) but to make a point that you cannot mistreat your customers, not served them what they have ordered and then expect them to keep quiet and pay. The despicable café owner demanded I pay the whole amount or he would not let us out. He blocked the door of the café. For £2 off (despite the appalling service) we had a loud shouting match in front of the café’s clientele and my three year old while the owner was barricading the exit. I demanded we call the police but at the same time I did not want to spend another minute in this unstable man’s company. I had to push our way out of this Celtic Hell."
