Ruskin Mill College
About the Business
Ruskin Mill College is a unique institution located in the picturesque village of Millbottom, Stroud, in the stunning countryside of Gloucestershire, United Kingdom. More than just a college, Ruskin Mill is a vibrant and dynamic community that provides a truly holistic approach to education and personal development, focusing on arts, crafts and land-based skills.
The college is situated in the historic Ruskin Mill, a former textile mill and has been providing a nurturing learning environment since 1984. Inspired by the work of philosopher and artist, Rudolf Steiner, the curriculum is designed to provide a bespoke education for students aged 16 years and older with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), which would otherwise hinder their learning in mainstream environments.
The college offers a wide range of courses, including foundation studies, horticulture, craft workshops, and academic studies. These subjects are taught in a way that promotes experiential learning and encourages students to develop practical skills in real-world settings, including a farm, a market garden, and a 9-acre woodland site.
Ruskin Mill College is more than just an educational institution; it is a community of individuals who are passionate about sustainability and preserving traditional skills. The college has embraced the concept of biodynamic farming, which involves working in harmony with the environment to create healthy ecosystems and sustainable food production systems.
Overall, Ruskin Mill College provides a truly unique and inspiring educational experience for students with diverse learning needs. The college's approach to learning, teaching and living is centered on inclusivity, creativity and respect for the environment. It is a point of interest for visitors to Gloucestershire, who are interested in exploring innovative educational models that offer transformative experiences for students.

Reviews
"I remember my 3 years at the college very well They work on practical things meant to helpful your future however there are not many colleges who are like This one but it's an outdoor college Some of the lessons Me and 2 other pupils did an exhibition amongst other artists and the college actually won. In the newspaper at the time around 2010"
"Called in to try the cafe, for a coffee and cake. Couldn't tell you what it's like, because was unable to park. Being a disabled person and unable to walk very well, I thought they must have a disabled space, well they do, but, on the day I visited an inconsiderate tradesman from "grey man commercial heating" was parked diagonally across the disabled bay The parking for Ruskin Mill is poor at best. I will not be visiting again, for the risk of being unable to park"
"This place was so fun when i was 18 and stayed with house parents and i wish i could go back because i only went for a 3 day trial and was a natural at glass engraving and they were impressed. Shame it goes up to 24 . i have autism."
