Reviews of The Britannia
"It's been a year since we ate here but the pub has changed hands since then. The menu was much improved. The staff very friendly and informative regarding food intolerances etc. I chose the beef stroganoff, my wife the lasagne and my son the gormet burger. We all found the food to be well presented, good quality and very tasty. We will definitely return."
"After reading some reviews on here I was optimistic about going here again. However I can't complain atall. Food was of high quality, there was short wait but I didn't mind that, i could see it was busy. Staff were very attentive, nothing was to much for them. Overall it was a good experience, I think anyone who has posted a negative review maybe being slightly harsh. Sunday menu was nice to see other options other than a roast (even though that's what we went for) my farther in law ended up having the steak which was cooked perfectly. Thank you. Will 100% visit again soon."
"Visited the pub for lunch on a Thursday at about 1300. I chose the steak and ale pie and my companion selected sausage and mash. Our food took about thirty minutes, which suggested proper cooking without a freezer or microwave being involved. The food was plain but of very high quality. The pie was superb; stuffed with tender steak inside a delicate, crusty glazed pastry and served on creamy mashed potato. Nicely cooked fresh cabbage sat beside it on the plate. Extra gravy in a small jug was a welcome addition and was absolutely delicious; thick, a little sweet and not salty. The three sausages were thick, fresh, local butcher's sausages and tasted delicious. Also served on a creamy mash bed with cabbage. Again, the accompanying gravy was delicious and of a different flavour to the pie gravy. Overall, a very satisfying and warming meal for a cold February day. Service was polite and attentive. Definitely compliments to the chef! Proper food at a fair price."
"How i wanted this to be a success After being a regular for over 20 years the village is in need of a local pub after several visits and mixed reviews i decided one final try On arrival for a 7pm booking we were the last table for the night menu arrived and when looking to place an order asked a few questions to be told by the server they had not read the menu Food arrived sauce served was off no interest when server told about the issue Food average and desert ordered Desert delivered and plates placed in-between dinner plates and server walked away chased server to ask could they take away the empty plates Manager on site what can i say to the owners of the pub please sack the manager pub in a mess manager sits at the bar drinking and drinking with no idea the problems happening under his nose At least he is happy as the bar staff available to pour him drinks that appear to bypass the till Then whilst waiting on slow service on food the manager is successful in getting his meal which he eats at the bar So disappointed could be a gold mine management team have no idea how to run a pub Dont expect to go out for dinner and staff camp out on table next to you whilst you have dinner There are better places around and better value for money Want be rushing back"
"Vivien was a great host. We only wanted a bar meal at lunchtime so ordered from a special menu. The food was great and will definitely return again. It was card payment only which could put some people off, but for the quality and reasonably price food, we would highly recommend a visit."
