Reviews of EC Bristol English Language School
"I was studying here 5 months ago, and I had to change schools because of the large number of Arab students. If you are from an Arab country, I do not advise you at all. The second point is that the school does not care about a student at all, and they do not have a clear system for determining levels. The third point is that they only think about money more than the interest of the student"
"Hello, we came from Turkey, my wife and I speak English very much. We want to register there and learn English. How do we benefit and what are the fees like? What day can we come?"
"*Some teachers are very good. If you have a chance, you should attend their classes. *Some staff members are very kind and willing to help you. *The class atmosphere is lively. The textbooks are good, and you could keep them after going home. *If you have some opinions about teachers or classes, go to see the directors together. Tell them about what you feel, and they will listen to you. Don’t be quiet because you have paid $$ and that is your right. *Intensive courses are mixed level classes; there is no intensive class opened for advanced students. If you don’t mind it, you can choose this course. *The school had better not use “weak” to describe a student's English level. *There are only 6 levels; there is no pre-advanced level. If you don’t like the level where you are, reflect this problem to your teacher. If they say you should stay in the same class, study harder to pass the test. *The print hall kitchen is dirty, and nobody cleans it unless you do it on your own. I think it is hard to the school to manage everyone’s habits, but they should be more responsible for the cleanliness of kitchens. *Only one clinic in a week (and is not held every week), no studying club. *If you want to relax, travel, have a happy vacation, and make new friends, here is the best choice. However, if you care about the quality, plan to study over 4 weeks, have a clear purpose or time schedule, and are diligent (not a lazy sleepyhead), you can have other choices (a university language center might be better??). Some teachers here are excellent indeed, but it is impossible to attend their classes every time. *A teacher once asked me with an arrogant tone: Will you miss EC? The answer depends on different points of view. I am not the only one who thought this school has some problems but we still enjoyed this learning environment. *It was curious why some teachers liked to claim their degrees in class? If you saw a mother living in Europe left her accommodation with a devastated expression, your classmates complained about the quality, or even teacher’s personal behavior was inappropriate in class, who cared about teachers' educational background? As for the teacher whose personal behavior was not appropriate in class (it is said that it’s a great great great Lankaster degree), if teachers don’t know how to respect their roles and students in class, I don’t think they respect their professionalism. Other teachers did their job dutifully; while such teacher regards themselves as an emperor on a decorated white horse (and the emperor's new clothes and horse are sponsored). Even if having a master's degree, educational background and conduct are two different things. If teachers hope their students respect them, they should respect themselves in class from the beginning. It was grateful for the assistance when studying here but we need to express our comments. If you have a chance to study English at any language school, study harder and you will definitely improve your English. No matter how many resources a school has, it is better to grasp the chance to learn from the teachers. If you just want to have fun, it makes no difference where you are."
"Amazing school. The teachers are brilliant (especially Andrew). And the staff is very helpful. Their doors are literally always open if you have any questions you can just step in and ask. You get a survey to fill in after your first week and in your final week, and they will also talk to you if you address any problems in your feedback. The only negativ point that I can make is that in classes you will speak a lot, but for the placement tests they also consider writing and listening skills, therefore sometimes students are placed in upper levels which are not very confident speakers. Working with them can get a bit exhausting when you are already on a advanced level. When I will go for another stay abroad to improv my English I surely will consider choosing another EC school."
