Reviews of Woodfield House
"Love the unusual way to book in. Rooms and communal areas were clean and beautifully set out. Yummy breakfast and plenty of it. Will definitely stay again."
"Great hotel if you are staying in the area. I’ve stayed here twice now & enjoyed both stays. Positives: - really good value for money - great location - good breakfast - check in very easy - dog friendly - friendly staff Other - Rooms aren’t the most modern (it is a historic house), but are clean and offer really good value for money. - Car parking is across the road and is (approx) £4.50 for 24h."
"This was excellent value for money. The room was warm and spotlessly clean if a little tired decor wise but having paid three times the price elsewhere for a cold room lukewarm water I rate this cosy single room very highly with a very very good cooked breakfast."
"The hotel decided that the bridal booking wasn't good enough for them so they cancelled to get more money from those attending the races. Left us with a very distressed bride and numerous people travelling in without plans, and losing money last minute. Would you want to book here knowing they might cancel on you for someone they think is better?"
"Stayed one night as a business trip. Arrived late (11pm) but had already been text access code for door, and key was waiting for me on the table in lounge. Not checking in by any staff, but that didn't bother me, found room easily. No parking, but local car park is directly opposite and free to park overnight, so perfect for those arriving late and leaving early. The hotel itself is lovely. As many have said, 17th century. Therefore it is a quirky, characterful, rustic building with so many pleasing features. Yes, the stairs are a bit wonky and not all the corners are straight, but having stayed in so many sterile, bland, cardboard cut out hotels, it was nice to stay somewhere pleasant. It is very well maintained and they are clearly trying to keep the appearance l, rather than retro-fitting to make modern. So lots of charm. My photos of the dining room don't do it justice. There is a lounge and bar downstairs, so a place to meet with others or to sit by yourself and read a book in the cosy lounge chairs. Breakfast was great. Good selection for cooked breakfast, and nice cereals / pastries / fruit selection. Only downside is, as a result of the age, the floorboards were squeaky in some spots, which in the small hours was awkward as I felt sorry for the rooms below / next to mine in case the loud noise travelled through. It was very hard to avoid them as there were several squeaky floor boards in my room (room 7, top floor). I was staying by myself, so didn't bother anyone, but could imagine it would have annoyed others. Also, only a bath with a bath-shower. No standing shower option (though, I'm sure with a bit of adjustment it could have a curtain and a wall stand?). Minor issue also in that the fire door had a strong kick back, so beware. Once aware, it's fine but shot back the first time and took by surprise. Shame, as the room was otherwise very clean, and also charming as elsewhere. So if lack of reception, accessibility (wonky stairs, no lift) and wonky, noisy rooms affect you, then this might not be the place for you, but if you're sick of bland hotels, and want somewhere with charm (and views of castle from the front), this is a great place. Also close to M4 / M48 (6-8 mins). Also, cheaper than budget hotels locally (£45 for B&B for one night). Overall very pleased and would stay again."
