Reviews of The First Hurdle Guest House
"I’ll start on a good note(the only positive was the pizza) Awful room, bed was only about 18” inches off the floor, certainly not worth £110 per night, very dated, no proper shower, cooked breakfast was one of the smallest I’ve ever been served. Atmosphere in the restaurant was so hot it was so uncomfortable, we moved outside to eat. They had no Scotch whiskey at all only Irish and JD (yuk). I all an horrendous experience and I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. Would have got no stars if it allowed me too."
"Room mismatched. Damp patches in wardrobe top cupboard. Cobwebs hanging from light. Smelt damp when walked in. Kettle didnt work. Cooked Breakfast overdone. Rest of choice was ok. Pictures on website not same as place actually looked"
"Stayed here on a Friday night for a visit to the races. The entrance to the guest house left a lot to be desired, filthy coconut mat and a glass door covered in hand prints. Room was ok, and the bed was clean and comfortable .Bath mat was an old towel, and only one towel per person, no hand towel. Breakfast was good for cereal and fruit etc, wanted toast but the toaster was absolutely stinking, burnt breadcrumbs and covered in finger prints, couldn't have been cleaned in over 4 months so had to go without. Cooked breakfast wasn't good, four in our party and we all left two thirds of it. One point in their favour was that the staff were wonderful. Wouldn't recommend and certainly wouldn't stay here again."
"Good location, very close to the train station, Tesco and the town center. Great pizza, decent room but tiny, reception very restricted itinerary, as well as breakfast. You need to be flexible, no check in after 9:00pm, and communication is a bit weird. The person who answers the phone is never at the property, so you will not have great sevice."
"My wife and I stayed at the First hurdle guest house 4th August for one night.Must say the day staff at breakfast were excellent ,unfortunately the same could not be said of the cleanliness of the room and bed linen which was to put it lightly was appalling. The pillows were yellow with no pillow protectors,Underneath the furniture was lots of uncleaned fluff, there was thin cobwebs dangling from the ceiling and the shower room had a small broken window pane that had been repaired with what looked liked a piece of cardboard or similar and painted white. The bathroom unit veneer had come away from the top and was off.The general appearance of the room is very shabby. And for £85 night it was certainly not worth it.Room number 11 certainly needs a complete make over.We are very disappointed."
