"26 year old backpacker currently 'on the road' I personally wouldn't recommend overall. Of course each company has their own limitations. However I personally find the claims process very difficult and stressful. Unfortunately on my travels as soon as anything has gone wrong especially medically the first thought is 'how expensive will this be as my insurance company will not want to pay' I'm very fortunate that I do not have ongoing health issues but I can only imagine how complicated it must be for these people. Very simple appointments such as for basic injuries and common illnesses you will need to fill out a form and submit an invoice (nothing out of the ordinary) but quite often the company asks for extra including doctors reports and many questions. One such claim I had for a simple illness took over 50 back and forth emails. This was quite stressful. I also recently needed an xray and was assured this would be sorted by the insurance company prior to arrival, in fact I waited a day to get the xray so this would be the case, but upon arrival was asked for payment. Did get sorted in the end but this cost me a fortune in international call fees and was not the best experience overall and does put a bit of a dampner on the trip. Not a terrible company but I would look elsewhere if you want to avoid a lot of admin on your travels"

"I accrued ambulance fees in Canada due to health issues. As ambulance fees aren't covered in Alberta under AHCIP, I had no option but to turn to True Traveller. They, Sandra in particular, were absolutely amazing in the handling of my case. I was reimbursed all fees and was supported and updated throughout my claim. "Always had good interactions with this company! They really are one of the best for backpackers and adventure travellers, as standard so much is covered and you can even insure working abroad and if you're already travelling! Wouldn't choose anyone else as their prices are usually the best!"

"Fantastic company! I come back to true traveller for each trip I go on as they are really easy to get hold of when in need. We bought two separate policies covering a working holiday in Canada and one in Russia (when it was possible to travel the Trans Siberian). And on both those policies, luck wasn't on our side so we had to claim twice. Once at a Siberian hospital and once after a nasty fall in Canada. We had no issues getting the claim processed and getting someone on the emergency line. Although it took time for the Canadian hospital and ambulance to be refunded, they tried everything to get us the money back. In total the claim came to around $3000 and it took us about 6 months but we expected that as the admin in Canada was a bit ridiculous! It was actually 3 different claims (one for the ambulance, one for the hospital room rent and one for the doctors) and all 3 were successful. The claim for Russia was for a siberian hospital as my partner got Rotavirus in the heat of the summer. No issues with translation etc when we claimed. Would recommend this company! You never know when you may have an accident or get ill when away!"

"This company are fantastic Im on a working holiday visa in Canada, and had to go to the walk in centre for a sprained ankle. Cost me $700 dollars which I paid for upfront, however, I received the full amount back from TT within 4 days of sending my claims form After physio, I sent my form yesterday midday, I’ve woken up to the money in my account The customer service is also brilliant. So impressed. I don’t usually write reviews but this company needs a shout out"
