Reviews of The Bell Inn
"Lovely family birthday lunch. Friendly and helpful staff. We're looking forward to visiting again"
"We had our best meals during a six day and night visit to Wales at The Bell Inn, a charming 17th century coaching inn serving updated versions of traditional pub food. Two "foodies" from the U.S. ate two of three dinners here while visiting southeast Wales, using Caerleon as a base. It would have been three nights if we hadn't wasted the first night at an overpriced a la carte restaurant at our hotel. The attached menu doesn't show our best dinner - grilled lamb breast with a delicious herb sauce, grilled artichoke hearts, and grilled gem lettuce (lightly topped with breadcrumbs and parmesean). Fantastic. SAVE ROOM FOR DESERT! Service at The Bell was every bit as excellent as the food. There was a nice restaurant area adjacent to the pub. A nice mix of folks enjoying themselves. Local folks clearly know and appreciate the spot. If it wasn't a bit off the beaten path, I bet it would be a tourist destination. Please give it a try if you're staying in or near Caerleon. You won't regret it."
"Nice food and catered to dairy free. Mussels with fish were deep fried which wasn't stated on the menu which was a shame but everything cooked to a high standard. Decent beer on tap though house white was dissapointing. The main issue was the noise level from drunk patrons at the bar next to our table. Couldn't hear the person sat next to me and although we had an apology from staff the noise level escalated from there, until we hurried to finish our meal and leave."
"The Bell Inn in Caerleon is an absolutely fabulous place a wonderful pub I have from my childhood memories 50 years ago. My whole family, including my grandad used to hang out here and have a couple of beers most days a week . Obviously the pub has changed quite a lot over the last years. It is an early 17th century coaching in and actually very close to the Roman burial ground here in Caerleon. It’s a wonderful atmosphere in the pub beautiful gardens outside lovely sitting inside all nestled in a little village just outside of the main town of Caerleon."
"First time eating here and will defo return very soon! A small evening dinner menu but everything sounded (and looked) delish! We opted for the sautéed mushrooms and house bread with marmite butter, both super tasty. And for main we had the burger which was enjoyed and the yeast baked cauliflower with butter bean mash which was different and full of flavour - lots of places often don’t make much effort with the veggie option so this was a real treat! The desserts sounded lovely but just didn’t have any room for them so next time! Also was a lovely atmosphere and the best most attentive and friendly services."
