Reviews of The White Hart
"This is lovely pub restro in the beautiful Castle Combe and a perfect stop for a hot meal. There are only two places to eat one is the White House. We visited castle Combe on a bank holiday weekend (assuming it will be less crowded). The white hart still was very busy but they have a lot of tables and plenty of places to seat. The queue to order was long. And as they were short staffed on the bank holiday, food took a little longer to come. But no complains as the sandwiches we ordered were delicious. I don’t remember when was the last time we had such yumm sandwiches. Loved it. Wait worth a while."
"There are not so many options in Castle Combe to have a hot meal. This place has an obvious advantage of being in a touristic hot spot center of the village. Hot food is served only within certain hours in the afternoon and after 6 pm. Check! There are places inside and in a nice garden. Food was nice and prices are adequate, dish sizes ok. However the main concern is a bit strange attitude to customers. Obviously lazy answering me or fulfilling small asks (like extra plates). I would call it unwelcoming and even rude. Maybe they were tired after a long day, but it is a bad excuse anyway. And I noticed that also towards other guests. Are they annoyed with tourists ruining peace in their lovely village? Also not serving free tap water, only bottled."
"I must admit my partner and I were somewhat apprehensive when reading the reviews for this pub but we decided to give The White Hart a try. Happy to say it was a really good decision. The food was excellent and the landlord and landlady were pleasant and polite throughout our dining experience. I had the beef stew which was home made and my partner had the burger. The ale was superb also. The pub was a proper English country pub and I’m glad we stopped by for dinner during our stay at Castle Combe. I am unsure as to why the owners are allegedly ‘racist’ as per some previous reviews. I am a mixed race man and I can honestly say I did not feel as if I was being treated differently nor any undertone of racism. Quite the opposite, and my partner and I were made to feel very welcome by the owners. Sure it’s most likely a ‘locals’ pub but they were more than happy to give us a good experience. Will definitely come again when visiting Castle Combe. 5 stars."
