Reviews of Dewstow Gardens & Grottoes
"A real gem among the gardens. In terms of size, it is not the largest, two hours is enough to feast your eyes. The garden has a lot to offer, there are grottos filled with ferns and exotic plants, with streams, cascades and fountains full of fishes, there are also lots of paths around the ponds, a surprises for visitors, in the form of garden architecture, at every corner. The vegetation is diverse, brought from many parts of the world. As for practical information, it is worth adding that there is a tea room, toilet and free car park on site. The access road is well marked with brown signs with a flower."
"This was a really surprising find. We live nearby but hadn't heard of this place even though we have visited Caldicot many times. The actual entrance sign isn't easy to spot so we did drive past and had to turn around. Once inside there is a large car park and everything is well signposted. Staff are really friendly and helpful and there is a useful map as without it we would have missed a large part of the gardens. The paths take you through the grottoes and water gardens and they are very different and certainly aimed at making gardens fun for all the family. Our grand daughter loved the fairy houses and it really did get her imagination going. After the grottoes there are the main gardens to explore with some lovely benches and viewing areas to take in the panorama and reflections. To finish off there is a cafe with lots of picnic tables and lovely cakes! All in all we spent a lovely couple of hours wandering round at our own pace. The entrance cost was decent and when we arrived there were only two other families there although it was certainly busier when we left. A unique set of buildings that deserves more awareness and promotion."
"A hidden gem! Had an amazing day, strolling round looking at all the scenery, including many ponds, rock gardens, fountains, beautiful grass areas with majestic trees, flowers. We will definitely be returning, this time with a picnic, to chill out and take in the breath taking Dewstow gardens ❤"
"Fantastic day out, plenty of parking and lots to explore for the kids. There was a power cut when we arrived so only cash payments could being taken, we were told when parking and where a local cash point was if needed, all staff were friendly and helpful. On-site cafe with cakes and ice creams if needed. Some information on the history of the site would be nice."
"What a gem! Have not seen anything like this in the UK before. The caves were stunning. Gorgeous surroundings and a lovely stop. Adults tickets are £8. Coffee, cakes, sausage rolls and pasties available from the cafe. Made our day! Highly recommended."
