Reviews of The Merchant City Inn
"Was pleasantly surprise by this accommodation. The room was perfect, location absolutely brilliant in town centre and staff were lovely and welcoming. My daughter and I would stay there again if we go back to Glasgow."
"Lovely hotel in beautiful old building. There is no lift and stairs are steep so ask for ground floor if you have any mobility issues but the hotel is manned 24/7, staff are friendly and helpful. Reasonable price and central easy walk to shops/bus station/train stations. I've stayed several times and will go back. Highly recommend."
"Me and my boyfriend came here for a 2 night stay in Glasgow for an anniversary, but as I read the reviews for this place I started to grow concerned for our choice of booking. However once we got there it wasn't as bad as expected with only a few downsides here and there. One being that I was asked to give my card details for "security" I understand why they may do this but it didn't feel very secure for me to give out my details like that. I haven't had any money come out of my account (as of yet). Secondly, the walls are incredibly thin. I could hear our neighbours walk about their rooms and I could hear a lot from outside too like the very noisy nightclub and what seems to be delivery vans driving down the street. And third, the area in which the hotel is located is very close to the centre and was easy for us to get around Glasgow however it was down a side street that felt a bit sketchy walking through once it got dark, and due to the colder weather it got dark at about 6-7pm. I can't really comment on the service as I never interacted with many of the workers, reception was nice enough. As I mentioned, the main concern would be my card details, I feel that was unsafe and puts my account at risk. But all in all it was an okay hotel, no issues with the room itself, everything seemed clean and the bed was definitely very comfortable compared to other hotels I've stayed in."
"This place is charming, clean and stylish with real wood floors and sophisticated lighting. The location is superb, just off Argyle St and round the corner from GOMA. There is no food available but no noisy bar either. The receptionist was efficient and friendly, taking it for granted that guests would come early and leave luggage in the huge room where he could keep an eye on it. One of the things that appealed to me was that I had to ask if I wanted my room cleaned. In 2022 we really shouldn't be doing unnecessary cleaning of rooms and washing of towels. Be aware there are lots of stairs, on a curve, and no lift, but it's really worth carrying your case to enjoy the atmosphere. I loved it."
"This is a cheap hotel, so keep this in mind when booking. I wouldn’t recommend staying more than 1 night. The bathroom had mould on all the edges (around the tap, on the shower head, around the soap dispenser) and I was able to clean this all off with a disinfectant wipe. The fan also did not work in the bathroom and was covered with a thick layer of dust. The heat is only turned on at night (I understand heating costs are high). The staff also ‘asked’ we leave our key with them so ‘staff know who is coming and going and in their rooms’ yet there is no safe in the rooms. We didn’t leave our key with them as this seemed very unsafe."
