Oakwood School

"My six children all went to Oakwood - my eldest went to secondary school in 2002 and my youngest in 2015. They all look back with great affection at their time at the school and gratitude for the fantastic education, spiritual development and opportunities they had to develop their enjoyment and talents in music, drama, verse-speaking, sport. They had a lot of fun at Oakwood whilst always being encouraged to give of their best in their work and in their relationships with others. They felt genuinely cared for and valued by all the staff and supported if they struggled with school work or friendship issues or any other worries they had. Mr Candia, the Head, was especially an inspiration to them. As a parent I feel blessed that my children were able to spend those formative years at such a fantastic primary school."

"Interesting to see reviews with no full names! When we moved from abroad last year, Oakwood was recommended by some friends. Our oldest kids in school just had the chance to be for few months before going to Secondary School, but the School offered them not only a solid academic program, but a nurturing environment that made the transition to a new country very pleasant. With one kid with special needs, the inclusion was total, he was made part of every activity and received a fair treatment. For the first time in his education, he felt a part of the group. Once, we had a bullying incident against our son, and the classroom teacher and the management dealt with it immediately and effectively, protecting not only our child but also taking care of setting the corrective measures with the other two kids. We still have one kid at Oakwood, and could not be happier with our choice. Our daughter is getting stronger in maths and Literature, but also growing in maturity. Following the recommendations of our friends was the best decision for our kids' education. Very grateful to the school."

When my wife and I had the opportunity to move to south London and send our children to Oakwood we did not hesitate and have never looked back. What an amazing school!! The impact on our children and our own lives as parents has been tremendous. One cannot put a price tag on the value of the education the children receive. While academic attainment and development are very strong at the school, the formation of character and helping each individual to grow in virtue are regarded as just as important. "I moved to this school having come from a completely different school in Oxford with an environment that was very typical of a primary school. I moved to Oakwood and remember to this day the friends I made on my first day, all of whom I am still very close friends with today, and this is just one of many things that made Oakwood special. The education is something unique, and one that cannot be taken for granted, with the staff putting in a lot of effort to tailor classes to the needs of children, no matter their level. The Christian formation received at this school is something I have taken with me all my life and has been the most beneficial thing I have gained from the school.This formation and spirit is practised by all the members of staff and reflects in their extraordinary work on the children that attend the school. The availability of a priest regularly and regular mass and confessions was a real gift. I feel very privileged to have been able to attend and wish the school all the best going forward!"

"Oakwood School is a great place to learn and grow, I have so many fond memories of my time there. The teaching is fantastic and I really got the sense that staff took an interest and cared for me in a way that made me feel part of a community. It was also really good to have a priest celebrate mass regularly, hear confessions and give short sessions on Christian doctrine, all of which I really missed at secondary school! I made loads of friends there and genuinely believe that the ethos, virtues and lessons I learnt in Oakwood are things that I incorporate in my life now many years later. Great school, keep it up!"
