Reviews of Almond House Lodge
"Not even one star! we stayed at the Motorhome club down the road, place is very dirty with lots of rubbish around! not a nice look! won't be back there any time soon!"
"This is no longer a hotel or lodge , it's being used as a hostel for homeless people , people from all walks of life , and families, dont know what the rooms are like ' I havent been in them , the building is staffed ,has reception and concierge, but for young people it's a very dark road to walk down at night , as it's on the beach road , ...but apart from this I font know much more about the place , it's used by E.D.C to help with homeless,"
"If the owner actually bothered to invest money in this place it would be great. Unfortunately he doesn't want to invest the money. I had the displeasure of staying here for a week and I really don't know how the council let this place stay open. On the landing I was staying on there was a big hole in the ceiling with water dripping through right next to exposed electrical wires which is health and safety on its own. The floors creak like nobody's business you could hear everybody walk up and down the halls also the person up above us. The walls are that paper thin you could hear every conversation. There's a horrid smell lingering throughout the place. And as for hygiene forget about it. The carpet in my room was horrendous. The ceiling dipped where there had been a previous leak and the cowboy job to fix it was laughable. Burnt out light in the room. The beds felt like sleeping on a slab. Nearest shop is about half an hour's walk away. No street lights on the main road going to the place so didn't feel safe on a night. No close bus stop. To be honest I think even the rats run away from this place. The council seriously need to inspect this place and shut it down because it's not fit for purpose. Also repeatedly asked for a kettle because there wasn't one in the room but they were "waiting on an order". Talk about making money off people's misery. The people that stay there deserve better in my opinion. Calling this place a hell hole is an insult to hell holes."
"Hardly deserving of one star. This place is being used by the council as temporary b&b for homeless people and families. There are no street lights or bus service within a ten minute walk. Totally unsuitable for families. Cooking facilities consist of two microwave ovens which have to serve 90 rooms. It looks run down and needs maintenance. When we first arrived there was only one working light in the room. When we requested the rest were fixed, only half of them were. Window latches ill-fitting, bedding was stained, toilet flushed sporadically. The kettle in the room had been used without water by a former visitor so the element produced burnt smelling water. They did eventually replace it. Our keycard for the room would reset frequently so we had to contact reception to have it sorted. Apparently we were to blame for it resetting as we "Must have had it near a mobile phone". Staff were, on the whole, unfriendly and business like. We felt like we were an inconvenience. Due to most folk being homeless, there is a ban on alcohol. The public bar was never open. There is a caravan park just near and people from there made a point of visiting to get a drink. They were obviously disappointed. Also, no pets are allowed. Overall, the owners of the "hotel" are making huge amounts of money from people down on their luck. Utterly appalling place."
