Reviews of Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel
"I agree with some previous reviews that some areas of the hotel are looking a little bit tired but everywhere, including the bedrooms is spotlessly clean. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed and if you book a castle view room the outlook and view is fantastic. All members of staff I interacted with were excellent - friendly, courteous and helpful, they really were superb. The location is great, very central and all ares of the city are within easy distance by foot or tram. Just be aware that car parking is at the Omni centre (discounted rate if booked online, check with the hotel) which is around 10 minutes walk, although it is a nice, easy walk. All round a very good experience and I would certainly book this hotel again"
"Hotel is located centrally for exploring Edinburgh. Fantastic view of the castle and Scotch Monument from our room. Room was lovely and clean towels provided daily. Breakfast is soooo good. Lots of choice, cooked breakfast was fantastic. Good choice of cereals, pastries, cold meats. We had an evening meal there too. Again food was great. The staff were really helpful and friendly."
"Perfect location for any culture vulture. Stayed in room 557. Fantastic view of the City by day and night. Room is a bit tired decor wise. It was however clean and well serviced. Very quiet at night too. The breakfast was excellent, as was the afternoon tea and the sharing platter. The staff were excellent. Helpful and pleasant. I won’t hesitate to use the hotel in the future. Good value for the service provided."
"This hotel has a very nice reception, restaurant, and bar design. The comfort level to sit and have dinner, and then in the lounge for an after-dinner drink was nice. Not to mention if you are seated near the window for dinner you have a nice view of the city. The dish I had was very tasty and was much better than I expected hotel food to be. As expected for an older building, the room I was in was dated, and a bit small for two people. I also encountered a problem with the hot water so that was a big disappointment and has an impact on my overall star rating for the hotel. The staff were wonderful and were accommodating, for instance helping to get my taxi to get to the airport on time."
"Superb hotel with caring staff and a delicious breakfast. During our stay we also use the restaurant for an evening meal and were delighted with the food. The location is magnificent just on the park looking across to old town with no obstructions to your view of Scott monument and the Edinburgh castle. There are no USBs for charging in the rooms but the Showers a very good and you will find the beds very comfortable. There’s no air-conditioning but the room sizes are very spacious. Security is rather good in that you will need a key card to get onto a floor and then in addition to unlock your room. When arriving we were very surprised that the cloaking is done by the guest."
