Reviews of City Guest House Edinburgh
"The facilities in the room are falling apart and dirty, there is no one the really take care of things and the location is far from the city center.. Unfortunately didn't had the time to read the reviews before I closed a weekend in this horrible place."
"The bed has flies and bed bugs, the mattress had seen better days, completely gone on one side. No plug in the bathroom kettle on the floor as set of drawers had tv on and cups so that was only space to put things on. I asked for room to be cleaned again because of dust, it never got done. The one plug in the room had wires coming out of it to make 2 more plugs, a fire hazard I would of thought If I’d had more money I would of stayed else were, I paid £70 for 3 nights only good thing about it is it was nice and warm. Don’t stay here it is not worth it, as for 20 min walk to royal mile if you run all the way you would do it in 20 mins"
"**AVOID** We booked a room at the city guest house in Edinburgh but we luckily didn't stay for long. When we arrived, there was no-one on reception. Apart from a plastic tub with room keys in it. We had all our confirmation emails from the booking that was advertised at a total price of £60 for 1 night. The girl on the reception then told us it would be £87 for the night, when we showed her all the paperwork and confirmations to show it is £60 she shrugged her shoulders and said well now it's £87. We turned and walked out and luckily got a last minute room elsewhere. We never even got in to see the room at city guest house but looking at the cleanliness of the reception and staff I think even if it was £60 for the night this would be overpriced. When we got settled at our next location we were able to reflect on what happened at the city guest house and the best thing we done was walk straight back out the door. They put a false price on booking websites to get you through the door, then rudely tell you it's more and even with a confirmation clearly stating the price. I'm normally not one for writing reviews but in this case it needs to be done."
"Absolutely disgusting place to stay. Cannot emphasis enough to stay the hell away from this place. It was DISGUSTING in every single manner. As soon as you walk in to the place it feels like DIRT. Walking up the stairs, looks like they haven’t been hoovered nor washed in god knows how long. When we entered the room, we instantly saw dust on nearly every single item in the room. I could run my finger across the pictures and get inches of dust. The bathroom shower plug was full of used hair, the toilet was no clean nor bleached. Upon iching very badly, we looked at past reviews and saw that people had posted about getting bit in the exact room we were in (room 9 by the way) and we were not in there for 30 minutes before my partner had signs of bed bug bites on her face. We left immediately, our trip to Edinburgh was ruined and the property cannot even compensate us half of what we paid. What a disgusting place to stay, again, I cannot emphasis enough, please please please spend your hard earned money somewhere else and please read reviews because this place is a minks hotel. I’d rather sleep outside than in one of their room. Wish I could give 0 stars as that is what they deserve."
"Please do not stay here. I arrived to find a member of staff sitting smoking outside who then proceeded to take me inside and ask for my details. He informed me that he "had to message his boss to inform him as he was out" he then proceeded to screenshot my booking to his boss. No professionalism at all. I eventually got taken to my room which was absolutely disgusting. Wall paper hanging off walls, sticky stuff on the floor (I kept my shoes on all night) everything covered in dust. It gets worse. Upon entering the bathroom I could smell what I can only describe as something decaying. The floor was filthy, the shower was cold and still had hair in it so I didn't take one in the end. The room clearly stated a no smoking policy but it absolutely stank of stale cigarettes. I wouldn't let an animal sleep here. If you're coming to stay in Edinburgh, I suggest you opt for one of the up-to-date, clean and helpful hostels. This place is like something from a horror movie."
