"It’s my first time to be in a restaurant / pub serving solely Polish food, though I have previously tried zurek and pierogis elsewhere in Edinburgh. The zurek and pierogis at The Percy tasted good and were better than the ones I had, unfortunately the mains we had were not as impressive. I really loved the pierogis there, they are traditional dumplings stuffed with cottage cheese and potato with crispy onions as topping. Well made and steamed as the wrappers were soft and elastic. The zurek was strong in taste (savoury sour) which I found quite appetizing. However the two mains we had - the pork schnitzel and the potato pancakes with beef goulash were just alright to me. The pork itself tasted quite bland, dry and not well seasoned- I understand that schnitzel never meant to be juicy and flavourful, but I did tried better ones in other parts of Europe; the crumb was crispy well fried though. The potato pancakes we had were a bit overcooked, burnt on the peripheries and quite oily - the beef stew and gherkins were definitely needed to make a balance. I can tell the dishes we had are truly comfort food even I am not a Polish, and people should be easily fond of them. It just didn’t live up to my expectation this time."
"Best kept secret in Edinburgh. Really hearty portions of traditional Polish food served in a well appointed restaurant. The potato latkes are to die for and the schnitzel is as big as your plate. In my opinion The Percy offers the best value for money food in Edinburgh. They have a specials list to go with their normal menu and a decent wine and beer list. Really humble food that's consistently good. The restaurant is always spotlessly clean and service is great. Real hidden gem"
"I didn’t like the food. Having just been too Poland, it was rather disappointing. The meat wasn’t very well seasoned and not tender at all. And the mashed potatoes weren’t the best either. Cucumber salad on the side was bland too and just drowned in Joghurt. Waitress was rather stressed and brought me the wrong drink at first. There was a big tourist group which came right after us, so maybe that affected the food, but wouldn’t be back."
"Food was lovely fair prices and nice staff. They have a British and Polish menu. Tried both now and both amazing."
