"Everything was excellent, made reservations for 6:45pm when I arrived the place was empty only a couple of tables occupied, I was informed when I made the reservation that they had problems with the credit card machine and that payment would have to be cash, which was ok with me. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere that was very relaxing, to get a view of the castle you need to sit right by the window. The food was excellent we had the steamed mussels which I loved and the roast venison and roast pork as entrees. Both entrees we're outstanding. The service was very good too, didn't have to wait too much for anything and the waiters were always around. Definitely recommend you visit when in Edinburgh."
"We arrived at the end of brunch time and decided to wait until dinner at 17.00. The place was rather empty and the staff could tend to us all the time, wonderful service. Waiters had good knowledge of the menu items. Food arrived quickly, well presented and tasted great. The cheese that accompanied the trout was outstanding. Nice view of the castle from the table we were seated at."
"WOW! The Outsider exceeded our expectations (and I literally planned our morning itinerary around us having lunch at this place). All of our meals were delicious & ambiance was great - we got a lovely seat by the window, with the side view of the Castle. The price was really good, I think one of our cheapest eats in Edinburgh. The location of this restaurant couldn't be better: minutes away from the city's main hotspots (which would normally mean this would be a touristy place with an overpriced menu - which it really wasn't). Only negative point was that the service was a bit slow, considering we were there later than peak lunch hours. Still, 5 stars for the whole experience - definitely recommend it!"
"Lovely restaurant with bright and alive atmosphere. Food was delicious and had a wonderful range of flavours. Pricing was okay too. The reason for 3 stars for me was the service. We went on Sunday for lunch and had a booking. Even then we were not greeted into the restaurant and had to wait for some time to be seated. Once seated we were quickly given water which was nice. However after taking our food order, it was around 50 minutes until our food arrived. I appreciate the restaurant was very busy but no one checked in on us in that whole time and there was no apologies for the delay. We felt like we had been forgotten about. The food is amazing so if you can go when it is quiet I recommend. However I feel like they may need more staff to deal with busier times and to accommodate customers if there is a delay."
"A good quality - price ratio, the starter and soup of the day were very tasty… As a mains we had venison and gnocchi, were quite tasty and good looking. The service was great but the coffe was too acid for me! We’ll come back surely"
