"This restaurant offers many mouthwatering dishes and every time I came, there is always a new dish to try. My friend is vegan so she really love the signature dish ‘Vegan duck’ My bias is Portuguese Nata (egg custard Tart) The chef and staffs are very friendly and considerate. One time I underestimated the spiciness of the food so I ended up burning my mouth. The chef replaced this dish with less spicy flavour. The restaurant can be easily full so you better come early or make a reservation."
"Small place run by a chef who is passionate about food and staff who are amongst the most courteous I’ve seen. The spice blends in the food are spot on, influenced by every Portuguese colony in the east. The crispy duck dish was stunning, the pork ribs gorgeous in their tangy sauce the Pastel de Nata also very good. Walk down to the nearby wine shop to buy a nice Portuguese wine which they’ll serve you for a small corkage fee, to make your meal even more memorable. Don’t miss out on this place."
"It was quite a surprise to find a Macanese restaurant in Edinburgh. By Macanese it means a fusion of Portuguese and Chinese cuisine, and in Macau Kitchen the dishes were authentically well done. Po Gok Gai (which means Portuguese chicken literally) is a must-try – chicken on the bone complimented by a creamy sauce made with turmeric and coconut milk, very tasty and aromatic. The Portuguese duck rice (tried during our first visit but seems not on their latest menu) and the octopus salad were really great as well – we were told that the octopus was imported from Portugal, and it was fresh and tender (anyway seafood in Portugal has always been great). And don’t miss the Portuguese Nata (egg custard tart), the crust was so crispy. We love the atmosphere of Macau Kitchen, and the staff were very welcoming and really enthusiastic about what they are offering. BTW the crockery and decoration there almost brought me back to Portugal / Macau……"
"Excellent food. Probably the best congee I've tasted. The main dishes were fantastic. The restaurant definitely needs booking in advance if you don't enjoy standing on the street for a very long time. Definitely returning when we're next in Edinburgh."
