About Birley Spa Bath House
Welcome to the Birley Spa Bath House, an iconic institution located in Dyke Vale Way, Sheffield. With a history dating back to the 1840s, Birley Spa is not only a stunning architectural masterpiece but also a point of interest and a must-visit tourist attraction in the UK.
The Birley Spa Bath House is a living testament to Sheffield's industrial past and the city's fascination with health and wellbeing. This establishment is made up of two main sections- the baths and the earth closet, where the aristocracy would come to cleanse and rejuvenate their minds and bodies.
The Birley Spa Baths consist of two plunge pools and a body shower, heated by a giant coal-fired boiler. Visitors can experience the benefits of hydrotherapy as the water's warmth eases aches and pains and promotes relaxation. This establishment also has an earth closet, which was considered revolutionary at the time, as it utilizes a unique sanitation system that utilized natural processes to decompose human waste into compost, an early example of eco-friendliness.
Besides the unique features of the Bath House, Birley Spa offers visitors stunning views, outdoor spaces, and expansive green areas. The surrounding environment offers the perfect opportunity to spend time under the sun, relax or put pen to paper while taking in the vista.
The Birley Spa Bath House has served as a community center and a local attraction for over 150 years. We welcome visitors of all ages and backgrounds to experience the unique piece of Sheffield's heritage and relax in a peaceful, serene setting while discovering the benefits of wellness and sustainable living. Come and visit us. We are open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from May to October, and Group bookings for up to ten people can be made throughout the year.

Reviews of Birley Spa Bath House
"It's a shame nothing is being done to it. Behind it's Birley moor birchwoods leading onto Carr Dam. I got loads of mushrooms there"
"An Amazing building, it is a shame about the condition, the guide was very knowledgeable"
"I used to take my boys when they were younger, now they're grown up I take my granddaughter. We love the building and the history, the surroundings, the events, everything. I do think SCC should invest in security cameras, anticlimb paint and on the building itself. The building would be great being used as a cafe or events space."
"Really interesting historically. Tour guide was very knowledgeable. Wear boots though because slippy in places."
