"Had a cottage booked (Fern cottage and had stayed there twice before) months in advance and received an email two days before the booking started to tell me HOTL had cancelled it due to a boiler failure, which I understand can happen. The reason for my one star is that they were happy to take my money but didn’t have the courtesy to even call me in person to tell me this, just an email. I did get a refund but if it’s my business and I’ve let the customer down at such short notice I’m doing everything to put it right, whether that’s providing another property at cost to HOTL or offering a future discount, They just tried to sell me other cottage - no thanks! They call themselves a family business, think it’s their family that’s being looked after!"

"Absolutely stunning in any aspect you care to mention! A high spec, immaculately designed property. Owners are helpfulness itself and the walks from the house meant we ditched the car for most of the week. A perfect place to relax."

"We have stayed in many cottages around the country and were slightly disappointed this time. As soon as we entered the cottage it had an unpleasant fusty smell, would of been nice to have a plug in air freshener The cottage in Ambleside was in a good position, but just not at all homely it felt a bit tired and needed a spruce up. There was mould on the ceiling In the master en-suite and all over the shower doors. It was cheaper than we usually pay and it showed. We even had to strip the beds !!, We shall stay with a fully equipped cottage next time."

"This was my 2nd booking with Heart Of The Lakes as we were pleased with the simplicity of it last year! The staff are really friendly and the offices are welcoming when you enter. The staff are very knowledgeable about the properties you are interested in and as we were there were allowed to go to view a property before booking. Which we did! Picking the keys up on arrival day is straightforward and very easy and dropping them off is the same. We had no issues with the property so never needed to bother the staff for a week. Fantastic and booked again for next year! Thanks Again"

"We visit the Lake District twice a year. Up to finding Heart of the lakes we use to book with different companies. We found Heart of the Lakes 11 years ago and have not looked at another company to book our holiday cottages since. Staff extremely helpful and friendly nothing too much trouble. We have only had two problems while staying in the last 11 years and both were sorted that day. The cottages have always been clean, well equipped and very comfortable. All makes for a very happy holidays"
