Reviews of Broomcroft House Care Home - Bupa
"Absolutely do not recommend this place. My Grandad was here for 5 weeks and we were disappointed and upset by his treatment in that time. The care staff on the wards are lovely as individuals and always tried to help where possible but the management and running of the home is atrocious. There's simply not enough staff for the number of residents they have, there was never anyone around to help. My Grandad was left in his room for hours on end everyday, he was never taken into the "beautiful" gardens they claim to have. The activities, exercises and crafts they claim to run and have on the board in the entrance also never took place. We were also told he'd have his nails cut and a hand massage weekly. But when we'd ask staff about these things, they'd have no idea about any of it and when we showed them the board stating it they were genuinely surprised like it was the first time they were being told about all these activities. One particularly unsettling incident occurred when my family arrived for a small party and found my Grandad in his room slumped down, shouting for help, being ignored, soaked in his own mess, which was extremely distressing for everyone involved. The senior member of nursing staff that dealt with the incident treated us with total contempt and tried to downplay the whole thing, then went on to lie to other family members who didn't witness the incident about what actually happened. During this party we were put in the "back lounge" which was just a room filled with junk and mismatched furniture. The entire brochure and all the images online are completely falsified and incredibly disingenuous, they make the place look like a 5 star hotel when it couldn't be further from it. During this same visit, which was about 3 hours long, there were nurse call buttons constantly going off from when we arrived and were never switched off, appearing to have not been dealt with. There were constant contradictions and lies told to different family members about every little thing. We were told my Grandad would have a nurse call bracelet as soon as he arrived but after a couple of weeks still had nothing, which left him in an unsafe situation as he was left alone in his room most of the time. Every family member who asked was told a different elaborate excuse for this. He eventually finally got one, but was then forced to move from the general care corridor into the dementia care corridor, which he was absolutely nowhere near bad enough for. Once he was moved up there the nurse call button was taken off him and yet again different family members were given completely contradictory elaborate excuses for this. He was then trapped upstairs, alone and unable to get help when he needed it. The other residents on that corridor would enter his room as they pleased and steal his things. On one occasion he woke up to find a woman going through his trouser pockets. When we tried to bring this to the home's attention, instead of dealing with it they lied and said that he had been doing the same thing to other residents, as though even if that were true it would excuse theft. My Grandad's wheelchair went missing which there was a lot of secrecy and confusion about, then when it suddenly turned up again it had been deemed unsafe to use. Finally, under the care of Broomcroft, on this corridor my Grandad suffered from a stroke and was found on the floor. We've still been unable to get the full story as to what happened, a whole hour of time is completely unaccounted for in-between being brought a meal and being found having a stroke. We have no idea how long he was having the stroke before he was found and probably will never get answers. He has never recovered from the stroke, completely lost all mobility and most of his speech. Overall just a very bad experience. Like I said the care staff as individuals were kind, but the system and management is very flawed."
"This is my first experience at working in a nursing home and can honestly say broomcroft is like a family and always make you feel welcome in the home with a very friendly atmosphere amongst staff. I would reccomend anyone looking to start a career in care to go to broomcroft the team is amazing"
"When my husband arrived at Broomcroft he refused to get of bed, he couldn't feed himself and he had no interest in anything at all. The staff approached each of these issues with kindness and positivity and within 24 hours he was being hoisted into a special chair that gives him the support that he needs; within a week he was attempting to feed himself and now 7 weeks later he has started joining in with some of the activities that are provided by the Activities Team. He smiles a lot now and really tries hard to communicate with people. The staff take a real personal interest in the people they are caring for and love telling me little stories about what my husband has been doing. I'm so grateful to them all, knowing that he's safe and cared for in a way that I simply couldn't manage to do myself."
"I cannot comment on the ground floor of this nursing home as I understand they go on trips etc. but if you love your relative I would definitely not recommend the first floor dementia wing. For 30 residents on this floor there only two staff at night. During the day not enough staff to take people to the toilet. My father was there for six months until he passed away. I do not think he got basic care as I found him laid in urine on occasions. I had to cut his nails although it was supposed to be done on Thursdays When I complained about anything management just covered their backs. The incontinence nurse was not asked for in the 1st 3 month’s My father was given end-of-life and I was told that we visited too often!!!! There are some lovely staff there who do try their best and the building is very attractive but I cannot recommend the care Because I complained I feel sorry I cannot visit a lovely lady I met there"
"Unfortunately I thought that this care home would be lovely. Some of the staff are lovely and will do much for people. However other members of staff are quite rude. They do not give the best quality of care to the residents. Admittingly some staff are great and will help people out as much as they can however others unfortunately seem to be just in for the money rather then having a caring bone in their bodies. I would recommend looking elsewhere, unless the place sorts itself out. Has potential to be a great home."
