About Chester Cathedral
Chester Cathedral is a magnificent institution located on St Werburgh St in the heart of Chester, United Kingdom. As both a church and a tourist attraction, this establishment is undoubtedly a must-visit point of interest for anyone exploring the city.
The history of Chester Cathedral is rich and fascinating. Originally built as a Benedictine monastery in the early 11th century, the site has been home to several churches and cathedrals throughout the centuries. The newest iteration of Chester Cathedral, completed in 1868, took over 200 years to build and is a stunning example of Gothic Revival architecture. From the intricate carvings on the exterior to the intricate detailing of the stained glass windows, every inch of the building is a testament to the skill and dedication of the craftsmen who worked on it.
Inside the cathedral, visitors can expect to see a wide range of art and artifacts, from medieval sculptures to modern installations. The choir and organ are particularly impressive, and visitors can attend regular services and musical performances held here throughout the year. Chester Cathedral also hosts a variety of workshops and events, including art exhibits, concerts, and talks on religious and historical topics.

Reviews of Chester Cathedral
"We were pleasantly surprised by the cathedral and volunteers. Entry is by donation only, though at Christmas it is £2.50 for the Christmas trees. There are beautiful ceilings, floors, mosaics, stained glass windows, woodwork, and more to see inside. They are also building a Lego model of the cathedral, with people able to pay £1 per brick then actually contribute it to the sculpture. (Very innovative fundraising idea!) Make sure to check out the cafe - it’s an amazing atmosphere. Toilets, gift shop, and tours also available."
"A very beautiful, peaceful place with a warm atmosphere. Lots to see. Tours available 11am and 2pm (free of charge) or enjoy at your own leisure. Great stained glass windows, mosaics, tapestries and art work. Currently there is a Christmas tree walk too and Nativity art installed. Great café and gift shop."
"Really beautiful cathedral. We also visited York minister this weekend and they are almost opposites. This cathedral has a lovely red brown brick that is dark and moody. Beautiful stained windows and features around the place. During summer it is not free but the £2.50pp charge is very reasonable. In comparison York Minster is £12pp. They had a train display on whilst we were there which was great to see in use. Friendly staff and plenty of open space not crowded."
"What a stunning cathedral! I've been there twice, it is worth the effort to see it. Really intricate design inside. Our group enjoyed seeing this amazing place. Even if you have visited many old cathedrals, you'll love this one."
"Amazing cathedral! It is extremely well preserved, the garden is wonderfully coloured in the spring season and all the small details that compose it creates an amazing place to walk and relax. You have very old manufacts and modern ones, such as the LEGO (yes, LEGO!) model of the whole building. Something you think to be in another epoch while you walk among the beautiful columns of some of its rooms... absolutely recommended!"
