Reviews of Prince of Wales Hotel Southport
"We went for 3 days between Christmas and New year hotel was lovely and clean. The rooms are a bit dated but the bathrooms have been updated. Staff are very welcoming and friendly and the breakfast and evening meal were delicious, will definitely be back"
"Usually stay at a major well known brand of hotel at the end of Lord Street, but wanting to stay a little longer than usual, and also wanting to conserve money in these increasingly tough times, I took the advice of a friend and tried it. Yeah it has it's faults, but no deal breakers, and I'd go far as to say I prefer it over the well known chain one that I usually stay at that's double the price. Would I stay again, absolutely, and I plan to very soon."
"Hotel looked good from outside with on site parking - although a daily charge. The public areas inside were well presented with some ongoing maintenance. The staff were friendly and very helpful. However as we went up to the room, we noticed that the corridors were in poor condition with peeling and scuffed paint - obviously in need of update. When we entered the room we noticed that it had too much furniture in it which made it feel cluttered and difficult to move around. It was all very old, mismatched and damaged. The bathroom was terrible! The door didn't even close, the sealant around the bath etc looked like a 2 year old had done it years ago with a spoon - as it was lumpy and grimy and the toilet was stabilised with blocks of wood - as were the radiators in the room. My husband had never seen such appalling finishing. The headboard was screwed to the wall with just 2 screws - no attempt to disguise these and the mattress was old, lumpy and we could feel the springs. Even worse, when we turned back the covers after a poor night's sleep, we found the bottom sheet was stained and had still been used, instead of being sent back to the laundry! There were many cobwebs and the room needed a thorough cleaning. The breakfast was very poor indeed with limited choice and poorly cooked, certainly not worth the cost. This was the final straw! We decided to pack and terminate our visit there and then. Altogether thoroughly disappointed with a short break which had been very looked forward to!"
"The staff were fabulous, the manager mingles amongst the guests very nice chap. Reception staff outstanding. The beds were awful, thin hard mattresses, only 1 pillow each, very thin quilts and cold rooms. Nice old building but a tired place. Breakfast not included but the food was good, no staff in breakfast room, except cleaning up. As it was all you can eat help yourself. But I wouldn't stay again."
