"The hotel was located at the top of a steep hill. We were annoyed that the restaurant was closed because of the lack of staff. The breakfast was continental only., We were not made aware of this at time of booking. As such we had to go outside of the hotel to get breakfast. The bathroom toilet was dirty , we reported this and a full service was completed the next day. A couple of caterpillars were found in the bedroom which was concerning. We have stayed in Travel Inn hotels on numerous occasions and this was a surprise. We reported our concerns to reception. We booked a disabled room as in a wheelchair, the room had plenty of space. The bathroom was spacious but the shower had a very strange mechanism and a very small seat attached to the wall. Not easy to use or safely move. A proper shower seat would be better suited and easier to use. Though Travel Inn is a big company they still seem to get things wrong for disabled travellers. Doors are wheelchair users nightmare but placing disabled rooms where you have to go through 3 sets of heavy standard sized doors is not really "accessible". Aware the balance of fire regulations and ease of use is a compromise. All that said, the staff were helpful and friendly, shame the restaurant was closed due to lack of staff."
"The positives on this place is the location for sure, very central in Barnsley, the actual parking of the car is a breeze in the public underground car park, at the time of writing this it was only £5 for 24hrs. Unfortunately, the lift was out of order, not sure if this is a regular thing but it's a long way dragging your bag up several flights of stairs, I'd say walk outside and make your way to the hotel that way, still a hike but a kinder option, plus we were told there are sometimes people begging on the stairs although we did not experience this. A double whammy was that they could not get a chef so breakfast was continental only. The self-serve check-in was also not working so all done manually on the reception desk and the lady on reception was a dream as we did turn up at 5pm with a lot of other people.....rooms are tired but clean, and lots of hot water and excellent water pressure. I would stay again for the location and the cost of £58.00. and hopefully breakfast will be available, we did go to Wetherspoons fir breakfast but that is another story for another day!"
"Well situated for everything in town. The staff are extremely helpful and the rooms comfortable. As promised a great night's sleep in comfortable bed. Sadly they are short staffed at moment so restaurant is closed apart from a continental breakfast meaning you have to keep going out for food. Carpet in room would benefit from a good cleaning as quite stained."
"We needed a new bathroom fitting at home so booked in for a stay. Staff were really nice room good and meals fine. We enjoyed our stay. We had a really good laugh about the glasses we got our drinks in- had a brandy night cap - husband got whisky and we both had wine at dinner - what a variety of glasses we got - I never got a brandy glass!! Perhaps we are of an age where you got the correct glass for the drink- my husband is a real ale buff you always get the glass for the specific beer you buy. That said we would stay again. The staff couldn’t do enough for you. To be fair the brandy any whisky tasted great irrespective of the glass!! Thank you"
"Pleasant room with nice view over the town. Very comfortable bed and a great night’s sleep every night! Friendly and welcoming staff, especially Janice, James and Jess. They even gave me a present to celebrate a rather ‘big’ birthday! The attached restaurant, The Glass House, is also good, nice food and attractive decor. Thank you to all the staff for making me feel at home over several weeks when I was working in Barnsley."
