"After transferring to Marple veterinary centre as my previous vet retired , I found it quite difficult to bond with a vet as my dogs (5)were often seen by a different vet each time. I feel this is not good when you need to build a rapport with the same vet. This was the fact with my previous vet, allowing continuity of care and after all our pets are precious and we need to be able to trust . On advice from one vet about flushing my dog's ear with cleaner and being told "this is how you clean your dog's ear properly" she developed an ear infection that need immediate medical care and several weeks later she was dead due to kidney failure . In her life I had always wiped inside her ears and periodically put cleaning solution in them and never had a problem until I took the advice from the vet. I clean many dogs ears in my job but I doubted myself .Today I have taken one of my dogs who needs an operation to remove a saggy flap of skin from his bottom . I was informed that this would cost £800-£900. When I questioned the cost I was told they have been taken over by a larger firm !!! This is shocking and day light robbery . This in my opinion is no longer about the animals welfare but merely making as much money as possible, don't get me wrong the vet was lovely but their bosses are greedy . The consultation fee is now an eye watering £48. I have now found a smaller independent vet with good reviews and a waiting list who will take on the medical care of my dogs. Upon a phone conversation they have given a rough estimate of approximately £350. He is booked in for a pre op consultation. Although a rough estimate I expect a little bit more on the total cost but no where near £800-£900. What is so upsetting is how many animals will go without medical care because of greedy large vet practices and owners simply not affording their prices at these tough times"
"Where do I start, I have been a customer for 20 years and in recent years it has progressively reached for the lowest section of my ranking ability as a paying customer. Last year, one of my rescue dogs had a lump removed, for £500, small lump though it was we as animal lovers still accept and pay, two days later the stitches breached and the wound opened up, took him back and they blamed the dog, who had been wearing a shade and was constantly monitored by ourselves. They then stapled him up and it failed a day later, took the remaining staples out, sent him home with an open wound and then charged another £200 to put him under anaesthetic (again) to repair him. The reason I rescued him was to avoid any further and unnecessary pain, if they had done the stitching correctly in the first place, it could have been avoided. Fast forward to this year, took another one of my beloved dogs and was admitted to be assessed, as he was unwell, sadly they found two large masses in his stomach and we decided to do the right thing and put him to sleep, absolutely devastated, but was the right thing to do. The last straw was not to receive a card of condolence (as we have always had in the past), apparently they have changed protocols and no longer give that personal touch when needed, but will happily grab as much money as they can, from you, when the animal is alive. They are driven by targets to sell treatments, mark up drugs, to a ridiculous level for profit, first question, is always, are you insured??? Never any continuity with practice vets, greedy and unethical, would definitely not recommend."
"Vet very kindly dealt last minute with an injured pigeon attacked by a dog- as owner watched on. Properly assessed the poor creature despite it being closing time. That's all I wanted for it- if it had a chance, to be given it, if not, then for it to be spared a slower, painful death. Vet very understanding- especially of my blurted out attempt to ensure this despite closing time. Thank you for your understanding and compassion."
"I have been using their services for years now, taking my guinea pigs and my cats in. Very helpful and friendly staff, always professional and supportive. You can find cheaper options but it's well worth to pay that little extra bit here. Would 100% recommend."
"The staff at Marple went above and beyond to assist, saving me and our young puppy a 3 hour round trip. They were all considerate and kind, and focused on making sure they gave the best service possible even though I wasn't a registered patient with them. As well as all of the reception staff, the vet we saw, Hannah, was welcoming, warm and knowledgeable. As I said to her, it's almost a shame they are not our local vets given how good the service was."
